Smart Metering Systems Signs Contract With SSE Unit To Install Meters

Mon, 18th Mar 2019 08:39

LONDON (Alliance News) - Smart Metering Systems PLC on Monday said it has signed an agreement with SSE Energy Supply Ltd, part of SSE PLC, to provide services as an integrated smart meter installer and meter asset provider to SSE's small business customers.

The metering services company said the contract provides it with the opportunity to supply and install up to 200,000 SMETS2 non-domestic meters. Smart Metering Systems did not disclose any financial detail of the deal.

SMETS 2 meters are the next generation of smart meters and will deliver a wide range of improvements, Smart Metering Systems noted.

The company said the deal forms part of the UK government programme requiring energy supply companies to provide all of their domestic and small business customers across the UK with a smart meter by 2020.

"We are delighted to have built on our long-standing relationship with SSE to sign this new agreement in our well established commercial sector," said Chief Executive Alan Foy.

"We look forward to helping SSE bring the benefits of smart metering technology to SSE's small business customer base," added Foy.

Smart Metering Systems shares were trading 0.5% lower on Monday at 615.90 pence each, while FTSE 100-listed SSE was up 0.8% at 1,216.50p per share.
