(Alliance News) - Seeing Machines Ltd on Wednesday said it welcomed US National Transportation Safety Board recommendations for "adequate monitoring of vehicle operator engagement".
The AIM-listed driver monitoring technology provider said the move follows initial findings from an investigation into a fatal collision between an Uber Technologies Inc automated test vehicle and a pedestrian in the US state of Arizona in March 2018.
The fatal accident sparked a detailed review, Seeing Machines said, as well as a broader review of the need for safety risk management for testing automated vehicles on public roads.
"While we recognise the absolute tragedy of the accident that occurred in Arizona last year, the findings and recommendations released in the NTSB report this week are welcome," said Chief Executive Paul McGlone.
He added: "Seeing Machines is well placed to provide a sophisticated and robust solution to keep drivers, passengers and pedestrians safe and we continue to negotiate with a number of companies who want to continue to advance technology, safely."
Seeing Machines shares were trading 3.6% higher in London on Wednesday afternoon at 4.35 pence each.
US National Transportation Safety Board Chair Robert Sumwalt on Tuesday said an investigation into the 2018 fatal crash involving a self-driving Uber car revealed "an ineffective safety culture" at the rideshare company.
