FTSE 100 movers: Airlines climb on Iran deal and broker comments

Mon, 25th Nov 2013 15:06

Airlines IAG and easyJet were both higher after oil prices went into decline following the deal with Iran which eased export sanctions for the latter and significantly lowered tensions in the Middle East. Iran and the so-called P5+1 nations of Russia, China, France, Germany, the UK and the US came to an interim agreement over the weekend limiting Iran's nuclear developments in exchange for the easing of economic sanctions. The deal will run for the next six months as both sides work on a final agreement.Broker Jefferies also helped both stocks higher, with easyJet upgraded from 'hold' to 'buy', and its target price on IAG raised from 360p to 410p. Fellow travel stocks Carnival and TUI Travel also moved higher. Petrofac, the oil and gas services provider, rose after saying that its 50/50 joint venture (JV) with Korean based Daelim Industrial has been awarded a $2.1bn engineering, procurement and construction contract by Oman Oil Refineries and Petroleum Industries. Meanwhile, engineering services giant Babcock fell after revealing that it is in discussions about setting up a "joint venture" with helicopter firm Avincis, which press reports have suggested could include a partial or even full buy-out. Numis and Panmure Gordon were weighing on the shares after both downgraded their recommendations from 'buy' to 'hold'.Oil stocks Shell, Tullow and BG Group were also out of favour as crude prices weakened significantly.Sector peer BP was lower after the US judge overseeing the entire civil liability trial arising from the Gulf of Mexico oil spill criticised the company's "deeply disappointing" attempt to block what it sees as excessive compensation payments.FTSE 100 - RisersInternational Consolidated Airlines Group SA (CDI) (IAG) 373.40p +2.92%Aberdeen Asset Management (ADN) 486.20p +2.27%Compass Group (CPG) 929.50p +2.14%William Hill (WMH) 375.40p +1.98%Schroders (SDR) 2,483.00p +1.72%Carnival (CCL) 2,264.00p +1.62%TUI Travel (TT.) 364.50p +1.53%ARM Holdings (ARM) 1,006.00p +1.51%easyJet (EZJ) 1,426.00p +1.49%Sports Direct International (SPD) 703.00p +1.44%FTSE 100 - FallersBabcock International Group (BAB) 1,280.00p -3.40%Randgold Resources Ltd.
