Engineering firm Smiths Group was the top riser after raising its full-year dividend by four per cent and returning 118m pounds to shareholders by way of a special dividend as annual results came in slightly ahead of analysts' estimates.ARM Holdings was looking up on the back of generally positive market chatter surrounding a possible bid from larger rival Intel. Also, Investors.com said the stock was "worth a serious look", while The Motley Fool said that the recent release of a smartwatch by Samsung has made ARM shares "rather intriguing". Banking group Lloyds was among the best performers this morning. The stock was recovering after sinking sharply yesterday following the news that the government placed a 6% stake as it formally began the process of disposing its stake following the state bailout in 2008.Meanwhile, Aberdeen Asset Management shares were down in the bottom spot after Morgan Stanley cut its price target and earnings ahead of the company's trading statement. In a research note the broker said: "We believe consensus underestimates the downside risks from equity outflows and weak fund performance, which we are becoming increasingly concerned [...] will challenge future growth." InterContinental Hotels Group was also firmly in the red. Yesterday the group announced the appointment of Oliver Bonke, the former Starwood Executive, after its Chief Commercial OFficer for the Americas. Fresnillo shares have taken a hit after UBS reduced its estimates for the precious metals producer on the back of the recent news about unexpected increases to mining royalties in Mexico.
