The FTSE Small Caps index closes up 0.5 percent, underperformingblue-chip FTSE 100, up 1 percent, and FTSE 250 mid-cap index, up0.8 percent.
Shares in London Capital Group jump 23.1 percent higher after thetrading and spreadbetting company says it has received preliminary bidapproaches from rivals Cantor Fitzgerald Europe, GAIN Capital Holdings and CityIndex Limited.
PhotonStar LED rises 9.3 percent after the lighting company reportsa 44 percent rise in 2012 revenues and a 62 percent increase in gross profit,while Yellow Pages publisher Hibu jumps up 15.2 percent after it saysit expects to reach a deal on restructuring its debt in the near future.
On the small-caps loserboard is pawn broker Albermarle & Bond Holdings, which falls 7.4 percent after posting lower profits.
Densitron Technologies also slumps 16.4 percent after the companywarns its 2012 operating profits will be materially lower than its 2011 profits.
