Kavango shares jump on return to drilling at Kalahari Suture Zone

Wed, 10th May 2023 12:37

(Alliance News) - Kavango Resources PLC on Wednesday said it is due to start a drilling campaign on its Kalahari Suture Zone North project.

Kavango is a London-based, Botswana-focused metals exploration company. The Kalahari copper belt, which runs for nearly 1,000 kilometres from northeast Botswana to western Namibia, is a focus in the company's exploration plans.

Shares in the company were trading 23% higher at 1.29 pence each in London on Wednesday afternoon.

Kavango has signed a contract with Mindea Exploration & Drilling Services Pty to drill the cluster of three "B Conductors" it has identified in the project area.

Mindea will deploy a diamond drill rig, capable of drilling beyond target depth, and drill up to four holes targeting the B Conductors at a depth of 600 metres to 700 metres.

Kavango has already mobilised its exploration camp for the drilling campaign, and is also preparing an access road to the proposed drilling site and preparing the water borehole for the drilling of the B1 Conductor.

Drilling is expected to begin in three weeks.

"We are delighted to return to drilling the Kalahari Suture Zone. Following last year's 'near miss' of the B1 Conductor, we've made thorough preparations for our return to this target," said Chief Executive Officer Ben Turney.

"Mindea successfully drilled two holes in the area last year for us, overcoming difficult ground conditions. We learned a lot together from that campaign and are confident Mindea's team will give us the greatest chance of making a successful intersection of the 28,700 Siemens B1 Conductor."
