LONDON (Alliance News) - Interserve PLC on Tuesday said its joint venture with engineering firm Doosan Enpure Ltd has been awarded a GBP46.0 million contract to upgrade the Horseley water treatment works in the Tyne Valley, Nothumberland.

The support service and construction company said the 30-month project will involve the building of new treatment works alongside the current plant in the Tyne Valley. The project was awarded by water company Northumbrian Water Ltd.

The site currently supplies 150.0 million litres of water a day to 800,000 customers on Tyneside in the north east of England.

Interserve said the project will begin later this month, adding that residents will not be affected while work is being carried out.

"Both Interserve and Doosan Enpure have an established track record of delivering major utilities projects and we're excited to be working together on this project for Northumbrian Water which will give the residents of Tyneside a world-class facility that will be used for years to come. Where possible, we will use local resources, while supporting the local economy and employment in the region," said Interseve Chief Executive Adrian Ringrose.
