The upcoming session will again witness the release of a raft of corporate results, with many outfits set to go ex-dividend. Interim statements are due from several 'heavy hitters', including Barclays, Tullow Oil, Standard Life, British American Tobacco and Next. GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) and Royal Dutch Shell will also be reporting their first quarter financials. Investors in GSK will be watching out for any signs of stability in the Chinese market, while those in the latter may have to guard against negative surprises regarding the impact which low natural gas prices have had on the company's bottom line. Copper miner Antofagasta will also be releasing its latest production update. Numis Securities is forecasting first quarter down slightly year-on-year at 177kt copper (Q4 183kt), with output of gold seen mostly flat at 65,000oz. Its analysts also foresee slightly lower cash costs at $1.81/lb (gross) with net figures ($1.47/lb) relatively stable. Fiscal year guidance is expected to be unchanged at approximately 700kt.On the macroeconomic front, traders will likely be in a holding pattern ahead of the Federal Open Market Committee's (FOMC) policy meeting in the afternoon. The FOMC is expected to approve another $10bn reduction in the pace of its asset purchases, lowering it to $45bn per month. This comes as the academic debate Stateside has shifted towards whether or not the currently elevated levels of long-term unemployment will hold inflation down sufficiently. If unemployment levels do not have their hoped for effect then the first interest rate hike might materialise slightly sooner than now expected by capital markets.Eurostat is also due to release its preliminary estimate on Eurozone consumer prices for the month of April. Before today's German CPI numbers, expectations were for an increase of 0.8% year-on-year, if not 0.9%. Spanish and Italian CPI's are due out first thing in the morning and may bear watching. Eurozone bank lending figures are also keenly awaited. The latest survey findings from the Chicago MNI will also be closely followed.
