Dixons Carphone plans 800 job cuts

Tue, 04th Aug 2020 12:01

(Sharecast News) - Dixons Carphone is planning to cut about 800 jobs by removing management roles in the latest round of reductions to hit the retail sector, according to reports.

The owner of Currys, PC World and Carphone Warehouse has told staff about the reorganisation plan. It will consult about 1,800 employees with 1,000 expected to stay in the business, Retail Week reported.

Business advisers will be removed from stores with no business hub. Dixons will scrap retail manager, assistant manager and team leader roles and create new management jobs for sales, customer experience and operational excellence, the Evening Standard said.

Dixons said: "There will be clearer accountability for store leaders who will work as an integrated team across the stores' electricals and mobile offerings. By creating new roles focused on customer experience and operational excellence, Dixons Carphone will also make it easier for customers to shop across all customer channels."

The FTSE 250 group reported a slump in annual profit last month caused by weak mobile sales and store closures during the Covid-19 crisis. Job cuts are sweeping through the UK's retail industry as companies expect falling demand amid the worst recession since the second world war.
