STOCKS NEWS EUROPE-FTSE AIM index weak, Petards surges higher

The FTSE AIM Index closes down by 0.8 percent while the FTSESmall Caps Index ends 1.3 percent lower, with bothfalling slightly less than the blue-chip FTSE 100 index which finishes down by 1.4 percent.

The FTSE 250 Mid Caps Index falls 1.2 percent.

AIM-listed Petards Group leaps 67.4 percent to19.25 pence after securing a contract worth more than 7 millionpounds ($11.2 million) with the Ministry of Defence for thesupply and support of secure radio equipment for the Royal AirForce.

Trading volumes in Petards come at 472 times higher than thestock's average 90-day volume.

Engineer Corac Group, another AIM-listed stock,climbs 2.2 percent after it receives a follow-on order from BPTrinidad & Tobago for a platform compression project.
