(ShareCast News) - Cambridge Cognition Holdings has filed a second patent application in the field of systems and methods for assessing cognitive function.The company, which specialises in computerised neuropsychological tests including those enabling the early detection of dementia, said the new application covers using wearable technology, smartphones and other consumer electronics to measure cognitive function in peoples' own homes.Chief operating officer Steven Powell said: "The unique technology around this patent allows the detection of cognitive impairments to be performed on a continuous basis, without time, expense or inconvenience for the subject or healthcare provider. Ubiquitous monitoring of big data using our cloud technology can enable interventions to be immediate and will have a significant positive impact on patient care, empowering more effective management of mental health and wellbeing."Cambridge Cognition said the patent will extend its IP asset estate adding to its technology value. The method of using new consumer technologies to monitor brain function and provide an early indication of impairment is highly innovative and is an area of significant growth potential for future products and commercial partnerships, it said.Shares in the company were untraded on Wednesday.
