Carnival extends AIDA Canary Islands season. cancels other sailings

Fri, 07th May 2021 13:29

(Sharecast News) - Carnival announced on Friday that its wholly-owned Germany-based AIDA Cruises is extending the Canary Islands season for its AIDAperla ship through July, while confirming the cancellation of cruises not departing from the islands, Greece or Germany.
The FTSE 250 firm said the new voyages would depart from Las Palmas, Gran Canaria in June.

It said that currently, AIDAperla was sailing on seven and 14 day voyages around the Canary Islands, which the company described as "one of the few vacation destinations" in Europe with "consistently low" Covid-19 infection levels.

The firm was also beginning Greek cruises on 23 May with the ship AIDAblu, and Germany cruises starting on 22 May on AIDAsol.

Cruises in other destinations were still not possible, however, and thus AIDA confirmed that all other cruises with a departure date between 18 May and 10 June were being cancelled.

"The enhanced health and safety protocols, tested by SGS Institut Fresenius and confirmed by the classification society DNV, includes a mandatory polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test for detecting viruses and bacteria before traveling, as well as regular health checks, social distance and hygiene rules, medical care including test capacities on board and other measures," AIDA said in its statement on the subject of its Covid-19 protocols.

At 1312 BST, shares in Carnival were up 1.26% in London, at 1,608.55p.
