LONDON (Alliance News) - BT Group PLC rivals Vodafone Group PLC, TalkTalk Telecom Group PLC, Virgin Media and British Sky Broadcasting Group PLC amongst others are calling on UK Telecoms regulator OFCOM to force BT to let them take control of lines to individual homes and businesses if they want to switch, the Telegraph reported Saturday.
Regulations imposed on BT a decade ago require it to hand over control of high-data-capacity links to rivals if customers want to switch. However, BT has been allow to retain control of links for businesses, meaning competitors have to rent access on BT's technical and service terms.
The rival telecoms operators want to be able to take control of this part of the network either by controlling the existing fibre optics or laying down their own lines in BT's duct infrastructure, the newspaper said.
