HOUSTON, Oct 6 (Reuters) - BP Plc's 413,500 barrelper day (bpd) Whiting, Indiana refinery was operating normallyon Monday, two days after energy industry intelligence serviceGenscape said one of the refinery's safety flares operated onSaturday.
Genscape said the flare associated with the distillatedesulfurization unit, a hydrotreater and a hydrogen unit at therefinery had elevated flaring late Saturday night.
"Whatever it was, it must have been short-lived," one of thesources said on Monday. "There's nothing today."
A BP spokesman declined to discuss operations at the Whitingrefinery on Monday.
A refinery operates its safety flare when it cannot processhydrocarbons normally either due to a malfunction or plannedmaintenance of a production unit. (Reporting by Erwin Seba; Editing by Chizu Nomiyama)
