CAPE TOWN, April 20 (Reuters) - South Africa's 172,000barrels per day Sapref refinery, co-owned by BP and Shell, shut down from Monday to mid-June for plannedmaintenance which was brought forward by a week after a pipelinefire, a spokeswoman said.
On Friday night an official at the country's largestrefinery, situated in the eastern port city of Durban, said anexplosion had occurred outside the facility. The fire wasextinguished on Saturday morning.
The cause and extent of damages to the plant were stillbeing assessed, said spokeswoman Cindy Govender. (Reporting by Wendell Roelf; Editing by James Macharia)
