HOUSTON, Feb 24 (Reuters) - Marathon Petroleum Corp's 451,000 barrel per day (bpd) Texas City, Texas, refinerystopped a leak in a distillate hydrotreater on Saturday,according to a notice the refinery filed with Texas pollutionregulators.
The leak was sending product into the unit's flare,according to the notice filed with the Texas Commission onEnvironmental Quality. The leak resulted in an increased releaseof sulfur dioxide beyond the level authorized by the refinery'soperating permit.
Marathon took over the refinery on Feb. 1 from BP Plc as part of a $2.4 billion purchase that included a cogenerationplant, pipelines, product terminals and retail stations. (Reporting by Erwin Seba; Editing by Maureen Bavdek)
