(Sharecast News) - The Serious Fraud Office has failed in its attempt to reinstate charges against Barclays over the bank's contentious cash call with Qatar at the height of the financial crisis.Earlier this year, the SFO charged Barclays Bank and parent company Barclays PLC with conspiracy to commit fraud in relation to the emergency fundraising secured from Qatar in 2008, including an offence of unlawful financial assistance in relation to the $3bn loan provided Qatar in November 2008.The High Court on Friday denied the SFO's application to reinstate in respect of all of the charges, after Westminster Magistrates' Court threw them out in May. As a result the charges remain dismissed.UK and US regulators have been eyeing the case as they also investigate the 2008 fundraising, while a civil claim has also been served by investor groups. The Financial Conduct Authority's investigation in relation to the issue had been put on pause as the result of the SFO proceedings, while the US Department of Justice and the Securities and Exchange Commission continue to be interested in the agreements.
