LONDON (Alliance News) - Hector Sants, Barclays Head of Compliance and Government and Regulatory Relations, is to take a temporary leave of absence after being diagnosed with exhaustion and stress.
Hector Sants, who was the Chief Executive of the Financial Services Authority from July 2007 until July 2012, is taking time off in a move similar to that of Lloyds Banking Group Chief Executive Antonio Horta-Osorio, who took time off for medical reasons in 2011.
"Rather than carry on working, and risk more serious consequences to his health, he is following medical advice and will be taking a leave of absence until the end of the year," a Barclays spokesman said.
It is understood that Sants' deputies will take over his role until his return.
Sants joined Barclays in January.
Barclays shares were Tuesday quoted at 280.48 pence, up 3.63 pence, or 1.3%.
