Sir Hector Sants, the man brought in to put scandal-hit Barclays back on the straight and narrow, has been forced to take time off due to 'exhaustion and stress', it was revealed Wednesday. The former investment banker, who used to head up the Financial Services Authority (FSA), has been signed off until the end of the year, having only started in the role back in January. Barclays said: "Unfortunately Hector has been diagnosed as suffering from exhaustion and stress - the cumulative effects of five years at the helm of the FSA during a tumultuous period and having thrown himself headlong into his Barclays role since the beginning of 2013. "He is following medical advice and will be taking a leave of absence until the end of the year." His role will now be covered by unnamed deputy staff. NR
