LONDON (Alliance News) - Advanced Oncotherapy PLC Thursday said that the first tests on the Side Coupled Drift Tube Linac have begun in line with the company's expected timetable.
The company, which develops proton therapy systems for cancer treatment, said that four SCDTL modules when combined and used in the LIGHT system will accelerate protons to 37.5 megaelectron volts from 5MeV, the speed needed to effectively treat radiosensitive tumours.
"The first SCDTL testing is another key step towards the successful delivery of our first LIGHT system and I am very pleased that we continue to develop the LIGHT system in line with the timetable that we outlined to investors last year and have reiterated recently. We remain on schedule for first patient treatment in 2017 and well-funded to deliver this to plan," Chief Executive Sanjeev Pandya said in a statement.
Shares in Advanced Oncotherapy were up 1.4% at 9.00 pence early Thursday.
