SolGold Says Cascabel Project Not Affected By Ecuador Earthquake

Mon, 18th Apr 2016 08:37

LONDON (Alliance News) - SolGold PLC on Monday said no disruption has been suffered by its Cascabel copper-gold porphyry project in Ecuador following the earthquake which hit the country.

SolGold offered condolences to those affected by the disaster and said it will make a donation to the Ecuador government as a contribution to the earthquake relief effort.

The toll from the quake in the South American country is estimated to have hit around 272, with the government deploying thousands of soldiers to the quake zone to help with recovery efforts.

The 7.8-magnitude tremor that struck Saturday evening some 170 kilometres north-west of the capital Quito also left more than 2,500 injured, President Rafael Correa said late Sunday, according to media reports.

SolGold shares were down 3.6% to 3.40 pence.

The only other London-listed company with a significant project in Ecuador is Amerisur Resources PLC, the oil and gas company. Amerisur is building a pipeline which will stretch from its Platanillo field in Colombia to the oil pipeline system in Ecuador.
