Ashoka India Equity Investment Trust PLC - India-focused investment trust - Net asset value per share rose 29% to 133.9 pence as at December 31 from 104.1p at the end of June. Share price at the end of December is 137.0 pence, bringing the discount to NAV to 2.3%.
NAV total return for the six month period is 28.6%, outperforming the MSCI India IMI index, which returned 27.1%.
"Nothing has changed in terms of the exciting growth prospects for the Indian economy. In fact, it is possible that the pandemic has focused investors' attention even more on the opportunities presented by the world's largest democracy, still considered an emerging market. The investment case for India remains strong and compelling," says Chair Andrew Watkins.
