Airtel Africa Signs Strategic Partnership With Western Union

Wed, 22nd Jan 2020 08:34

(Alliance News) - Airtel Africa PLC said Wednesday it has signed a strategic partnership agreement with Western Union Co to facilitate a mobile remittance service.

"Through this partnership, Airtel Money customers will be able to reliably send and receive international money transfers directly from their phones, using the Airtel Africa mobile money wallet," the company said.

The telecommunications and mobile money services provider said this partnership helps the company to cater for the needs of local and global community members.

Western Union will help Airtel Africa to take an "active part" in the international money transfers that happen to and from its operating countries.

Raghunath Mandava, chief executive officer, said: "International remittances into Africa are a lifeline to some of our customers. This partnership gives our customers the convenience of directly receiving and sending remittances from their Airtel mobile money wallets."

Airtel Africa shares were up 0.6% in London at 71.25 pence each on Wednesday.
