Feeling left behind

Friday, 22nd January 2010 15:04 - by Boredmum

You know that feeling; when your friends move on to new things and you’re feeling a little left behind. Well, that is how I have been feeling a tad this week. I have some trading friends that have been tipping some shares to me. The trouble is that you can’t be in everything, but I have to say that this week, all their choices have been flying and my shares have been pretty much stagnant. You’ll know who you are in tipping Baobab Resources (TIDM code: BAO) at 4.75p to buy (currently 8p), Sirius Petroleum (TIDM code: SRSP), tipped originally just over 4p (currently 8p), and then Angel Biotechnology (TIDM code: ABH) which was tipped at 0.3p and is currently 0.46p. Of course I am pleased for them, but it has been disheartening as my portfolio just suffered another slip this week. I do know one thing that is really important; being that I have to stand firm with my belief for now. I guess it’s a bit of a ‘wobble’, where you question your choices. I’m questioning my choices not on their own merit but on the performance of other shares - and that can’t be right. Of course, if I was to sell out of one of my holdings to go into another then the inevitable would happen. I’ll give you a little example of that; Vatukoula Gold (TIDM code: VGM). I was a holder since the River Diamond days, and must have held for 18 months. I had many buys and sells along the way, selling the remainder about 2 weeks before that spiked. I was just grateful that the remainder of my holding wasn’t many shares, but there does seem to be a pattern of me selling just before a large rise. Then again, someone once said to me ‘You remember the ones you sold that go on to do much better, but what about the ones you sold that are now down on the floor?’ I do think we have a clouded memory in that respect. So, I’m hoping that my feeling of being left behind doesn’t last. On a positive note, at least it really gets you questioning and re-evaluating…and that can’t be a bad thing.
