Appearances can be deceptive

Sunday, 16th August 2009 11:25 - by Boredmum

Appearances can be deceptive, especially on bulletin boards of a financial nature. I am not just talking about Rampers or De-Rampers. It may be that the person you first found to be knowledgeable perhaps isn’t so. It may be that the person whom you found to be arrogant turns out to be an ally. The fact is, when we communicate with people over the internet, we don’t really know anything about them. You may find because you yourself have no ulterior motive that you don’t expect it of others. It is worth bearing in mind that we should always treat what we read with caution unless it comes from a recognised or official source. I am not saying that we shouldn’t trust people. It’s just that trust is something that is usually built and earned over time. The more time that you spend posting and reading the posts of others, you get to realise the people who are knowledgeable and the expertise they have in certain areas, along with their track record. Many people come and go. There are lots of ‘new’ posters from time to time, and it’s worth noting the people who have been around for a while. These are clearly people whose reputations have been built over time. Unfortunately, this is all known by the ‘recognised’ posters, but newbie’s would do well to carefully consider other poster’s credentials.
