Alnwick, from a rational perspective you're entirely correct. However the markets aren't rational. Over last 12mths MOON is up 50% (even after this drop off) and CARD flatlining (even after 25% pick-up in past month). I've been invested in CARD since early 2022 @ 50p so doing well, but would have been sooo much better off if I had picked the 'tech' darling instead when their valuations almost collided at the beginning of 2023. I hope your switch is well timed, but I think it's a case of MOON retreating further and CARD struggling to advance under the burden of this anti-business government

MOON have spent big time on both Acquisitions and Tech.

The underlying business is contracting partly due to CARD (More on this later)

and advances in Digital Printing Technology.

I've been involved in Digital printing for 25 years and the cost of the Wide Track Printers has plummeted making entry into the Digital Printing market very easy.

MOON don't now have a USP you can buy personalised cards from numerous outlets or for a few hundred pounds buy a printer and do it yourself.

MOON are also expensive !

CARD Factory have over 1,000 outlets and their Personalised offering is improving by the day.

CARD are less than half the price of MOON and the quality is exactly the same as both the base material (paper and card) is coming from a handful of Paper mills and the Digital Printing capability is largely outsourced to International locations.

CARD have also recently acquired a US company Garven who are fancy wrapping and Gift wholesalers who supply most of the huge retailers in the USA. Walmart , Target being the 2 largest. Huge cross selling opportunity.

MOON is on a P/E of 23

CARD is on a P/E of 8

Profits were up,after adjustments, for impairment for its previous acquisition..Markets always looking for an excuse to sell down,rather than buy.

I sold this morning at 262p. Made a tidy profit of 110% or so. HY results below my expectations. Key now is how they will make money from the vast amount of customer information they have amessed and increase the bottom line profit. I anticipate this may go below 200p with no near term news.

Moonpig Group plc posted HY results for the period ended 31st October which were pretty looking. Reported revenue increased by 3.8% year-on-year to £158.0m, driven by double digit growth at the Moonpig brand. Adjusted EBITDA was up marginally to £41.8m from H1 FY24 £41.4m with margin rate above the Group’s medium-term target range.
