Looking like the market makers are dropping Vodafone share prices to let in some big punter.
A trade for 2,620,000 shares showing up as a buy on ADVFN at 12:35:26 and on the London Stock Exchange showing it at 12:35:26 gmt too.
Its an off-book trade.
Could it be really a buy trade? Possibly as the share price dropped around those levels.
See the trade here at 12:35:26 time.

I agree with this. VOD still too much of a headache for an all cash takeover at premium to todays price. Interested parties will continue to pick bits off at less than the assets recorded on the books. Why pay a premium?
KevRow It could be anyone,
You would buy VOD if you thought you could make $15bn by splitting it up [and you had access to the finance].
A rival telco might believe they can get part of the company completely free by selling off other parts.
Earcrust, I doesn't give much awaye...
Neither, it's a muppet & not a very bright one
Hi Gutty,
Is you a man or is you a woman?
You is keepin us gessin.
Everyone seems to be of the opinion, including the current management, that Vodafone needs to be broken up. So it seems to me unlikely than any rival telco would want to takeover Vodafone in it's entirety rather than just pick off any bits that compliment their own business and keep any regulatory issues to a minimum

Here’s why I think the Vodafone share price should be 110% higher
Reflecting on speculation, our writer believes there’s a case to be made for the Vodafone share price being more than twice what it is today.
The Vodafone (LSE:VOD) share price has rallied in recent days due to rumours that the telecoms giant could be a potential takeover target.
The source of the speculation appears to be Betaville, a self-styled “cheeky website”, that says it’s heard reports a European company is considering making an offer.
I have no idea whether there’s any substance behind this story. But a potential bid price of 100p-105p has apparently been mentioned. If correct, that’s a 42%-49% premium to the closing share price on 1 March 2024, valuing Vodafone at up to £27.9bn.
Let's see🤑🤞🙏

Not really mole_man, as much as I agree that it's a massive technical achievement to enable satellite communication using an unmodified mobile phone, I'd suggest the satellite would have had to use the maximum gain available on it's antenna to enable that communication, since the mobile phone wont be able to contribute to the overall system gain. Without knowing anything about the upcoming Starlink service, I can safely say that the satellites will only be able to provide mobile service to a very limited number of mobiles and much will depend on the position of the satellite. It'd be great for isolated areas, but a standard sat phone would be just as useful for emergencies. I can see a market for the service, for remote parts of the World, but it'll always provide an inferior service to terrestrial cell service and would be useless in urban locations.
77.3 p please Roofer

ForensicBloo. Based on your unintelligable, rambling post to me, I looked at your posts on the Lloyds forum, & you really are a very strange person. I will ask you again, who is this borderline illiterate person you refer to? There is nothing borderline about you, just very strange. I am not trying to give you investment advice, just advice in general. Perhaps you can get your cronies to give you more than 5 or 6 recommends if you reply?

Hi NewSid and thanks for that link you posted.
But I rather that you read this latest update published on the 28th February 2024 as the most accurate information to date. Anything else that is posted elsewhere is just distorted news to create interest in the Vodafone and swisscom current €8billion sale deal in the making.
28th February
Vodafone Group Plc (“Vodafone”) notes recent media speculation and confirms it is in exclusive discussions with Swisscom AG (“Swisscom”) regarding a potential sale of Vodafone Italy to Swisscom for cash.
Subject to confirming binding transaction documentation, the parties have agreed that Swisscom will acquire Vodafone Italy for an enterprise value of €8 billion on a debt and cash free basis and subject to customary closing adjustments. The enterprise value represents a multiple of c.26x consensus FY24F OpFCF1 and c.7.6x consensus FY24F Adjusted EBITDAaL1.
Vodafone has engaged extensively with several parties to explore market consolidation in Italy and believes this potential transaction delivers the best combination of value creation, upfront cash proceeds and transaction certainty for Vodafone shareholders.
There can be no certainty that any transaction will ultimately be agreed. If required, a further announcement will be made when appropriate.
This communication contains inside information. This is a public announcement pursuant to Article 17 paragraph 1 of the European Market Abuse Regulation (596/2014), including as applied in the UK.

Indeed the cells are large and unable to support many connections, yet. It's interesting though, as just last year you would of said it can never be done, download at 17mb/s direct from a sat to an unmodified phone. Innovation rolls on like a steamroller over companies not investing to keep up.
Mole_man, how do you suppose Starlink satellites would cope with hundreds of phones downloading content at the same time? LEO's would be better used as a backhaul for remote cells, where the cell can offer 5G to local mobiles and use higher gain equipment to deal with communication to the satellite. I could imagine cell to satellite might be good if you're on an deserted island, or really remote location with no cell service, but even ships and planes would be better off using a local micro cell and combining the service to backhaul with the satellite.
Sell assets below book to get cash to keep paying investors. Excellent long term strategy. Why waste it on r&D.
Meanwhile, SpaceX just achieved peak download speed of 17Mb/s from satellite direct to unmodified Samsung Android phone.
ForensicBloo. Who is borderline illiterate?
If I'm understanding everything, by merger they're referring to Fastweb combining with Vodafone Italia. Vodafone wont have any ownership of the combined entity, it'll be entirely owned by Swisscom. The RNS clearly states "sale" with no reference to joint venture or merger.
"Vodafone Group Plc (?Vodafone?) notes recent media speculation and confirms it is in exclusive discussions with Swisscom AG (?Swisscom?) regarding a potential sale of Vodafone Italy to Swisscom for cash.
Subject to confirming binding transaction documentation, the parties have agreed that Swisscom will acquire Vodafone Italy for an enterprise value of ?8 billion on a debt and cash free basis and subject to customary closing adjustments."
It certainly sounds encouraging NewSid, particularly as analysts seem to be positive on the proposal. Maybe there'll be an RNS in the morning to clarify things. Thanks for posting and 🤞 for tomorrow and beyond.
@Garonne, that's what I think, but can't be all bad. Merger for 8billion would value Vod Italia for a lot more
