Only share in portfolio that is up....another reason for diversification ..although many if my eggs are in this basket (case).....waiting for 140
That's because most of the earnings are in euros and currencies other than the £, which has sunk just a little bit today on the back of poor GDP results.
You will need to ask danielh when he expects VOD to reach 140p ...
140 by end of the week perhaps?
Look the germans are always right - so 225.
long term VOD holder, can anyone quickly bullet point me why VOD is so bullish in against the recent drops? Have i missed something?
VOD doesn't really suffer from supply chain issues, it pays a good dividend and inflation reduces its debt.
Thank you Robina, this is one of those shares i just bought and forgot about, get my divi's and dont really bother to keep up with the latest news, my average here is in the 150's but not to bothered.
Patient says ask me when it will reach 1.40. Well I don't know, I just hope, but a good day today so far, so who knows, I don't have a crystal ball, just a positive attitude. robleo is hoping for 1.40 in 2 weeks time, so that would do me.
You missed many things:
1. E& took a 10% stake in VOD at 130p so under that price it's always a huge bargain (won't stay long below)
2. E& said what needed to be said which is "debt is cheaper than the dividend"
3. This point 2 might have finally triggered flow into good value high dividend share of VOD
4. There are deals expected from VOD to boost the business
5. Some people have realised inflation might possible be good for VOD as the debt dissipates faster than expected
6. All of the above means VOD is undervalued and should be bought (not sold )
7. Free float has been reduced so there are less sellers.
VOD will be a winner for the year within FTSE 100. Let's see, it is still early days.
Cheap
Well not a bad day today, up, with the ftse down. Unless you have a negative obsession with America & only own 1 share. Shame about the pm fall though, but that's life? Snakes & ladders.
Haha hope you enjoy the fall tomorrow - looks like they enjoy skiing in America as well - dont worry though - Read will save us !!!!!
I would suggest caution on believing point 5. Inflation will be inflating VOD's costs, but their product price will not keep up, pressuring margins. You can see the competition for contracts coming with bigger and bigger GB data deals for the same monthly price. Deflation in telelcoms will be the actual problem.
VOD's debt will remain just as big and problematic in an inflationary recessionary environment.
Difficult times ahead for business. Side with low/no debt companies with positive FCF.
Mole your Tesla buy rec is down 20% since you suggested it as better than VOD. Since then vod is up slightly. Goes to show…
Negative drippler Mikey is back.
So where is the fall???
You must be blind I think
I disagree with you. Inflation will devalue the overall debt, just as someone who bought a house 20 years ago now has the mortgage amount much less of a burden, even if it was an interest-only mortgage. A 45bn debt with a 10% inflation will be worth 40.5bn next year, if no more debts are added to it. Deflation in telecoms will happen whatever, and inflation will sweeten the pill for all concerned, especially the established players.
Have faith - here it goes :)
Hows your eyesight Cheapsharesboy !!!!!!!
As I write the SP is 126.39, so going up and down quite a bit today. £ is near to 1.20 dollars, and euro and dollar at near parity. Interesting.
Yes tsla is down from when mentioned at some point. Did start mentioning it when it was around $450, so up. All about timing. And now is not the time to be looking at the current value of a holding and being pleased not to be losing too much today. The seeds of fantastic gains over the next decade are sown today. I am sure by 2030 tsla and many other interesting well run companies will be showing large gains over today’s price. VOD however will of found a way to not increase shareholder value and the sp will reflect the divs it had to pay out. Meanwhile €60+Bn of actual debt will still be a lot, inflation or not.
Let’s take stock in 2030. Which was better to hold from June 2022? VOD or TSLA.
PS, TSLA make so much cash they will need to start paying a div soon, and no debt.
mole. See you in 2030 then? I can't wait!
Well Mikey your usual (repeated many times mantra) about the Yanks bringing VOD down isn't relevant here today ... so far.
Fed results from their current two day meeting are out tomorrow though so you could well be right then.
If the market takes a hit tomorrow as a result of the Americans I shall be buying AV. & LGEN shares & topping up my three Vanguard funds - S&P500 (ETF) & Lifestrategy 60 & 80. So here's hoping for some help from across the pond.
Come on Gary - we all know its going to happen . America is in turmoil at the moment and as usual takes us down at the end of the day .
Indeed Dan see you in 2030. There is a high probability too of more calamity stateside and lots of egg on the mole's face as stocks there crash properly and TSLA with it, but don't let that put you off a great buying opportunity in great companies.
VOD's weird safety status preventing the SP declining will be part of the reason it underperforms as economies improve to the end of the decade.
Meanwhile Vantage falls daily and is down 17%.
VOD's dollar debt has also increased significantly in € and £ terms as exchange rates collapse. They have about $25bn denominated in USD.
Beware safe stocks.
Hello mole. Isn't what you are saying about Tesla, the same as they were saying about vod about 20 to 25 years ago? What went wrong? Competition? Don't you think Tesla, will be swamped by competition eventually? 25 years or so ago, if you could have seen in to the future to now, & seen everybody & there dog plugged in to a mobile phone all the time, you would have put your life savings on vod.
mole-man you are incredible.
Fristly, tesla has also a big debt pile but in your view this is ok because there is Elon Musk???
But when VOD has debt this is a problem? Your bias stinks.
Secondly, Tesla is valued at now $710 billion dollars. Do you understand what that means?
it means it is fully valued, or overvalued, it's growth is alrady PRICED in.
Vod in valued at £35B , therefore making it much more attractive than overvalued tesla.
If Vod was valued at £700B I would not be interested. the fact that you think tesla is good value at $710B market cap says a lot. Says that you do not understand what valuation means. At all. You really think Tesla should be valued ad $2T dollars? That is pretty naive, there are people there happy to sell their shares to your at these levels. They will be laughing all the way to the bank until your Tesla miracle will be fairly valued at $70B, giving you 90% loss.
