Hi roofer thanks mate, but i added to dlg for the 11% dividend and potential growth once inflation is under control, i have been keeping cash back for a while for a potential vod top up and average down
I used to have 11 funds which had all built up a nice profit, but since we came into inflation problems and the usa tech stocks started taking a hit, i was then finding the profit i built up on funds were being reduced week by week, so i sold off a lot my funds to buy more dividend shares instead, just kept 5 of the best performing funds but even the profit on them has been reduced by 30 to 40 percent
I am now getting dividends from lloyds, lgen, aviva, mng, dlg, psn, vod , have made the decision to retire in two weeks' time, so once all payments have stopped going into my works pension will be taking out 25% tax free and transferring the rest into my sipp, so the low share prices may possibly work in my favour for now, hopefully we will see the shares starting to improve again at some time, the last few years have not been great for the stock markets, my largest holding Lloyds which is 25% of my portfolio has been a big disappointment so has vod just being honest, Hargreaves have been bigging up Lloyds as the share to invest in for 2022 as banks make good profits from high interest rates, but not seen much improvement yet, not complaining have not been doing great but reasonably well i think considering all that's been going on
sorry for boring the pants off everyone I'm always trying to pick up any investing tips from other investors as I'm definitely no expert
have a good weekend all
Next weeks close after going ex div = 102.3
Next weeks closing price 101p
Robleo ....thought crossed my mind , why dont you remove your capital just from your recent top up at DLG , keep profit in shares, must be up about 10% now and buy just a few in increments in Vod , Vod does look oversold now n due a bounce to 110/ 116p ish , ...just a thought....dont shot the messenger

Thanks Dan and others, i agree and think after xdiv would be a good time, personally i think this is a good buy anywhere near £1 we've been here before, not in any hurry to sell so may as well buy some more and lower my average
congratulations newsid, i also thought this was going to drop after results due to inflation costs and the general uncertainty at the moment, that's why i didn't take part this week, but was hoping i would be wrong
hey guys have you noticed that Dan & Mikey are friends again wow, so glad that Dan has found a new playmate though hope he's lol
Well done NewSid.
I had to look Benjamin Graham up! Makes me think we are in similar phase as 1930's and 1940's with large institutions/ media capturing government thinking etc (thank you Fleccy !). That of course led to WW2 and a reduction in economic inequality by reducing the population.
Thomas Picketty suggests a system of global taxation rather than war is a better way of fixing the problem (ie Capital has tended to grow faster than the overall economy and income from capital less evenly distributed than labour income.).But anyone invested in individual ftse 100 value stocks over the last 4 years or so would argue the opposite and that inequality gap has reduced by a general reduction in stock market wealth and on going in the housing market and bonds now?
Being positive and looking forward, Jeremy Hunt this week tipped his fiscal policy narrative in the direction of inequality and concluded that his budget underpins a 'Resilient' economy and a Compassionate economy.
I suppose the good news is Nick Reed reported a 'Resilient performance in Europe & Africa, good progress on operational & portfolio priorities'
The word 'Resilient' used twice in one week by our chancellor and a global business leader must point some form of harmonic resonance.
I think I used the word 'Resilient' as a reason for holding VOD but I didnt think... LOG Benjamin Graham + Thomas Picketty = Capital reduction (or is the economy is worse than I know?)
I will go for 118p again next friday although that might be the cabernet sauvignon talking.

Unfortunately i can see it getting close to 90p with ex div so ill say 91p

Dan, I might struggle to get a flight out of Siberia as they're all banned into Europe...I'll have to settle with eating cabbage soup and cold caviar with my new comrades....brrrrrrrr...-((Na Zdorovie and ...do svidaniya!!!
Nostrovia comrade moniman. At least you haven't lost your sense of humour? Shame about the rest though! No more cold war eh?
Well done New Sid. At least you beat Mikey! Only joking Mikey. I hope you (Mikey) will join in again for next week. Better than talking about ski slopes. Perhaps our new comrade moniman would like to join in? Talking of ski slopes, I am off to Austria in January (far better than Russia) you should try it sometime moni, it might cheer you up?
Dan, it bl@@dy freezing here in Siberia thanks to the one way flight you booked me on...I'm still surprised I've still got a phone signal....just thought you'd like a balanced independent view on Vod...brrrrrrrr...:-((...do svidaniya.

Many thanks, Roofer.
It's ironic that I wanted to be wrong this time around but had a feeling about the results & how the market seemed to crucify Vod for the slightest negativity.
I saw this as a good opportunity to top up and honestly think my investment will come good. It's a solid company.
And as Benjamin Graham said;
"short run, the market is like a voting machine--tallying up which firms are popular and unpopular. But in the long run, the market is like a weighing machine--assessing the substance of a company."
The Accolade goes to.................
"Newsid" ..... 96.7p
Well done ..in this eventful week

Djones. Vodafone doesn't always drop more than the divi on ex divi day. On the last 2 ex divi days it closed down roughly the same as the divi. Please check your facts before posting on here.
Selling outside your ISA - Well you can offset your losses against any winners you may have, cannot be many VOD shareholders with a CGT issue.
Hello robleo & others , I think it's worth pointing out that on the last 2 ex divi days the vod sp fell by 3.88p & 3.68p so about the same as the divi. It may be wise however to buy after ex divi, especially if you pay divi tax. Personally I need to sell some vod shares held outside my I.S.A. at some stage to avoid divi tax. Good luck rob.
Vladimir moniman is very touchy lately, isn't he? He'll get over it? Poor soul.
With the FTSE100 absolutely none - price performance of AIM.
Index less than 4% off the yearly high.
VOD less that 3% off the yearly low.
Pays (for now) a decent dividend but must be the biggest dog in the index - idiots keep guessing the weekly share price.
