Over the next few days we will be able to see if the Chinese vessel ,which I suspect is some sort of tug/support vessel , having arrived at the last known position of our drill platform COSL seeker,
is going to be moving towards Nigeria/Cameroon. Interestingly two other vessels have now arrived the vicinity. They may just be passing we shall see. One is a Tanker the other a Cargo vessel.
They appear to be way outside the regular shipping lanes in the area. It could be that hey are planning to move the drill platform closer to the drill site for maintenance work.
The fast moving Chinese vessel is the skeleton crew, supply vessel as stated and the tanker can tow the platform into the niger delta for some maintenance before picking up a cargo.
BrigOd00n I done my thinking work there with a little help from uncle Jack!! Now it is up to you
to check plausibility. I have seen tankers towing platform before as it is an economical solution if you have one passing. Point is the Chinese have them passing all the time but now with oil demand down short term they are redundant. If it were me on a nod and a wink I would be moving the rig into port for maintenance!!
Back to the man in the spot light Brigadoon well done on the scoop.
one last thing may be nothing (just uncle jack having a joke) but I did spot a fishing vessel on the exact spot around a week ago and it seemed an odd place to be looking for fish when there are plenty nearer home!!!!
Well guy that's it I will be closely watching the Chinese vessel over the next few days. This could be a very very significant handle on events as/before they unfold!!!
Staying that, I've worked in the region before and I know it's not as easy to predict the tides and currents in the Niger basin.
ATB...
Same here, but could be the 'weather widow' dictating things...(I.e getting positioned within the weather window before the natural cycle of currents etc in the basin.. take effect)......or I could be completely wrong..
ATB...
Thanks Brigodoon.
Would be surprised if it was moving for us so soon though. I thought June was the proposed spud date?
Sorry Isetown,
'Tug Master/Heading Control Vessels' are used to tow rigs (our 'jack-up' rig) into location.
Defiantly Chinese flaged.. :)
ATB...
Definitely a Chinese vessel (unusual for that area), could be a 'Tug Master/Heading Control Vessel' ...but need further investigation... I'll update when I get more info.
ATB...
This sounds interesting. What might the different boats be doing ?
there is also now a lighthouse beacon symbol at the location incorporated into the last position of the cosl seeker . Thats new. Looks like they might be preparing to move her!!!
BINGO soon enough
Well spotted brig0!!
I did say a couple of weeks ago that would be the next vessel to
watch and here we are no other reason to be at that location.
Thing to do is check the vessel out to see what type she is and who owns her.
Excellent work. It can mean only one thing. Chinese whispers etc.
Caveat to below... unless permanently moored.
ATB...
Seeker may have 'dropped off the radar' because she is at anchor...Only last position known is required if not on the move. (As per any rig)...although visible to nearby vessels.
ATB...
Yes, sure can:

Might not be anything, but there has been a Chinese ship (CN XMG - NINGGAOFENG2626) at the last known location of the COSL Seeker. It's been there for some time now.
Just saying.
