To provide shareholders with an attractive and growing level of income, together with the potential for capital growth, from investment in songs and associated musical intellectual property rights.

And there's more:-

Remember when it seemed that we used to announce purchase of one of these every other week.
Been quite a while now - surely something must be just around the corner??
Tipped by Questor today as one of four funds to insulate us from market swings:-

"Should do away with any more placements"
Why? The way I read it is that Blackstone are investing in the Management company (not SONG) so if and when they come up with great catalogues to buy then if we want to participate we may well need further placings (once what remains from the last placing is all used up).
Or maybe I misunderstand.
In my limited view, I think that the added investment in the partnership by Blackstone might indicate that they also see the potential of artists being awarded additional royalties?
Should do away with any more placements
Hmmm. Not sure about MM acting as an advisor to a third party effectively doing the same as SONG.
OK, SONG has the right to co-invest in any catalogues that MM gets for Blackstone and Blackstone's $1B gives him a lot of firepower but still.....
The news of a partnership with Blackstone is an interesting one and I can't decide if it is a good move or not. Whenever PE companies get involved they tend to be pretty ruthless and only look out for themselves. Price up slightly but nothing to indicate how this has been viewed other than, unknown right now.
More from MM:-

They rasied a lot of money (£156M) at the beginning of July since when they have announced purchase of Christine McVie's catalogue. Would be good to hear of more purchases given that they said at the time they intended "deploying immediately into the pipeline".
Surely they can't have spent all that money on the one catalogue? (that's not a serious question).
If the heads of all the companies I own shares in understood the power of "promotion" in the same way as MM does, I have no doubt that my portfolio would be in much better shape.

This must be one of the biggest risks. Conviction from historic cases could wipe out the value of some of the holdings.
Indeed - there's longer quotes from him on this in other articles - he basically says they are great songs, but who is going to play them if he is convicted. I bet the Gary Glitter and Lost prophets back catalogues would be even further discounted but still wouldn't make any money.
As MM says - why take the risk?
I'll see your industry promo and raise you an R Kelly reference:

No lack of company promotion from this chap:-

Thanks for the reply crypt0r. I’m still surprised this share hasn’t bounced yet, but happy as added a few more today.
Nurseteve - I've just finished reading through the report and that is my take from it as well. Currently composers get around 10% or less of the royalties of the recording. So that means the value of SONG's revenue from the UK could go up 5 times if the recomendation is implimented in the UK.
Ask yourself: why is Merk so determined to get songwriters share of royalties increased?
Hint: - for "songwriters", read "Hipgnosis".
Article on BBC MPs call for complete reset of music streaming to ensure fair pay for artists https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-57838473 seems artists will be entitled to a 50% share of streaming revenues. Where SONG have bought the artists rights then does that mean SONG are set for increased revenue? Just a question and a good enough reason for me to invest.
