Bewarethebrokers, saw it for $164.38, how did you convert it to £40.40?
SP has recovered on nasdaq 40.40 with not long to go
And most recent commentary suggesting biggest takeda shareholder is in support of deal and possibly holds enough voting to sanction the deal .. and most of shire shareholders gotta be worried about going back to 30 or less without the deal .. ok it’s a way off .. but .. to drop 1.35 % today is madness surely??
Ftse up 1% shire down 1.25%. Gap between offer and current sp 23%
Anyone holding here would do well to read a bit about arbitrage specifically in takeover situations. The standard approach is to buy the target company and sell./short the buyer for the very obvious reason that the former normally rises and the latter falls as the deal nears completion. You can bet that there will be hedge funds looking at that as I write. In this case however they need also to consider multiple exchange rates, interest rate movements and still-to be published figures from both companies. The typical investor is at a significant disadvantage without the tools available to the hedgies. see my post at tue 14.07 for my take.
Allegedly the merger/takeover will take a good few months so the gap between current price (40) and the offer (49) will narrow down over the the coming weeks. Media says it will outperform ftse 100 in the coming months - of course it fkn will !! Its a got a fkn offer and is in the process of being taken over ... Bl00dy media stating that fkn obvious:-/
to a novice investor why this stock is not valued closer to the take over price of 49? I currently do not hold stock but am considering buying soon?
Down by 1%. Even with a firm offer of 48 + , it cant keep steady at 40. Shameful!! Any takers at 39 for something that someone is willing to pay 48 for??
Snippet i picked up yesterday is that the deal includes a break fee as follows 2%(of 46 bill)if the Takeda board pulls out 1% if the Takeda EGM says no 1.5% for any other reason - so at worst ,Shire will receive 460 million if the deal collapses, that's in the region of 4/5 months profits, making this a very good year for long-term holders
Thats just Levi korsinsky LLP. getting free ad space . Sharks.
Its nothing to worry about - a standard "ambulance chasing" approach by US lawyers seeking to drum up a class action suit which will earn them millions of dollars in fees and may(unlikely)drive a rise in the price paid by Takeda.IF, and its a big if, they find anyone with material claims that the sale is undervalued , it might just flush out another bid at a higher price but , I for one, won't hold my breath.(or delay my sale)
Share price still above 40 so maybe not a big deal
Well spotted .. not sure how this will pan out .. another obstacle on the negative but on the positive implies sale at under value ... but it’s been weeks in negotiation .. surely an argument of not achieving a fair price through not shopping it about is fairly lame .. I’m sure the big players aren’t shy and sit waiting for an invite to the party ??
I only stumbled upon it by accident
Hmmm ... but it wasn’t exactly rushed through .. there was plenty of time for an alternative ‘fairer ‘ offer to be made .. is this very grand ambulance chasing or a major shareholder trying to drive a rival bid ... seems bit strange to me

When i was thinking of buying shares in manchester united i had to fill in an online w-8 form i think it was and that granted a different tax for foreign nationals and given the fact that we will receive shares in dollars on nasdaq im wondering what the tax situation will be,after all shares in an isa should be exempt from tax. This takeda deal doesnt half complicate matters!
I e-mailed that exact question to hargreaves and lansdown because i am in the same situation as you and this was their reply. i can confirm that we will contact you in due course when we have been provided with further information. So i like you are none the wiser
Takeda share price has risen 4% today so far
If this gets to 42, 43, Im out as well then into Abcam which has had a nice drop and GlaxoSmithKline if it falls back a bit. Also Sirius minerals if that drops a bit.
Tempted for the maybe potential. But after reading all the comments not sure now. I think if they hit around 43-44 I’m selling out
Im tempted simply because japan has an aging population and shires drugs could do really well there and if they can get into the chinese market and all across asia you are talking a lot of potential customers. I think takeda could become a real force given time but im not sure ive got the patience to wait.
Is anyone planning on holding longterm ??
I read an interesting view in ft that said that the immediate sell off by takeda investors could well have signalled a shift in shareholder mentality .. those adverse to upsetting of the status quo bailing and being replaced by more risk tolerant investors looking at significant recovery/improvement to takeda sp .. makes sense
