I posted this on Lloyds late last night. It's really worth listening to and only 10 minutes. http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b07hj8bv Not much happening today with sp.'s mailman..I caught my two locos..very impressive. Re. England..You have to hope that this time it really is a wake-up call. The FA need a good shake up,bring in new people. I see Greg Dyke has stepped down after 3 years as chairman http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/36655802
Happens so often..as soon as England get kicked out the better games get played... Wales game Friday and Germany game last night, 2 good games ...See what Iceland can do tonight ...
Yes you are right they were better than today's lot... More. So as the current lot are so poor ... I suppose we just wait for repetive process to repeat itself again and chose another high paid manager and probably pick some of the current team .. Probably Rooney again to build his Cap total up further.. ATB...
Your right of course , not all the same squad but a number of the 1966 squad were in the team . Many regarded the 1970 team as the better team , who knows , and although they didn't win the tournament they did give the Brazil team , claimed by some to have been the best international team of all time , their closest game losing 1-0 ,and had it not been for an illness to Gordon Banks might well have met them in the final and possibly replicate their success of 1966 . All if's and maybes now but to my mind they were a class apart from the current lot .
bakerrabble... England Yes did beat Wales , but that is another issue of England`s years of inconsistency to add to their problems.... They played better against Wales and played Diabolical against Iceland with many horrendous passing moves.... Their shown ability in the Iceland game is now added to the history of the past Efforts.. jings100 .. cannot comment on the 1970 Squad, who Obviously did not play good enough to win in 1970.. Not sure if they were all the same 1966 squad ... But to play so badly in this tournament and to only win one match out of 4 and say they are better than the 1970 squad... HIGHLIGHTS my point that the guy in the Guardian is yet another one who tries to make any Excuse to justify England`s poor shown ability. and getting kicked out so early... To me the Results go in the history books and in England`s case it is very sad reading...And how many times during the past 50 years.. after a tournament has the Manager disappeared... Without big changes to the system. I can see another 50 years of the same...and it defies logic that in the last 30 years a GREAT 11 man England squad has never been found... ..A great player knows how to play and Finally the art of DRIBBLING seems to have gone come back George Best.....just hack a player down instead is the thing now...take a hit for the team the TV pundits say and get a yellow card... sorry not my way of being skilful, any player can do that and shamefully many do... ATB...
Even odder just read a comment in the Guardian where a guy reckons the current England squad is better than the 1970s team ( basically the 1966 team that won the World Cup ) and that in their heart of hearts the current Welsh team will know that , even if they win the tournament , England are a better team . I'd be willing to bet that the guy who wrote it also voted leave in the referendum .
Point well made mailman. Its just a bit odd that England beat Wales 2-1.
We done WALES.. You have finally shown that the ENGLAND players are OVER PAID ...UNDER ACHIEVERS ... When will it FINALLY sink in that the ENGLAND system is repeating the same poor system of making EXCUSES for the players lack of shown ability in an ENGLAND shirt... For the past 50 years ENGLAND has turned up to just made up the numbers at every football tournament ... So if nothing else is to happen, for Gods sake FA, please admit the present system of choosing players is wrong and paying a manager £10 million plus to achieve nothing is basically utter STUPIDITY.. 5 DECADES of a repetitive bad system is just Crazy and MAD. ..WALES you have the SHOWN the desire and Passion so lacking and NOT SHOWN in so many ENGLAND Teams and their HUMILIATION of themselves proves that point time and time again.... The shame of the English Prem players has finally been EXPOSED as their value is GREATLY over rated and their salaries means they are GREATLY over PAID. Consistent Excuses, for Consistent bad results, have Consistently go on for far too long...The need for the FA to change things is Paramount for all to see... Players are the Problem no matter where they play in the world They can win Friendly games , but do not win many tournament games sums up a major problem somewhere... Is it really the lacking of Desire and their Ability when it really matters....? . .it is a Strange fact of History that 15 Managers since 1966 have come up against the same problem , of unable to get ENGLAND players to win tournament Games, and like Ground Hog Day the same England Player and Manager choosing system just repeats it self over and over again... With such similar out comes or results ... Just my point of view as always. ATB ..You may have another points of view as to why things have been for so long.
Wales , lol , what a game , what a team . Brilliant ...speaking of brilliant , been some great posts on here recently by yourselves and others . Nice to see the board being a bit more like it used to be . ATB
Lovely smell from the old Steam Trains.. Sheringham in Norfolk has steam Train Days Nice day out .. Have a good weekend ..
Yes…Absolutely..Wales tonight and make sure you hear the anthem too..lol. Will get this tomorrow near Worcester. http://www.docbrown.info/docspics/ArchiveSteam/loco45699.htm This one Sunday but near Bristol. This is it near Hungerford where I've also been. It's lovely location http://www.royalscot.org.uk
Nice interesting post .. I saw it this morning on TV quite moving....... Enjoy the Royal Scott loco tomorrow ..Get out and forget the shares .. been a interesting week ..probably another one next week as well... Wales tonight .... and hopefully a sunny weekend.. ATB...
Yes probably... I think he is just the front man and has little really to say other than the expected statement of the BOE will support the Banking system... and the economy is in good shape... .See what his next statement will be next month ... Financials seem to be the struggling sector at the moment and what changes will happen to their EU trading network.. and if the Bank Rate drops..
it might help if Carney could keep quiet for a while and quietly and efficiently get on with his job
mailman..I agree with your posts. Decided to watch the WW1 commemorations this morning and thought if the sp has gone up so be it..I just thought it more important to watch that. It was very impressive and my thoughts were..considering all previous world-wide conflicts and another World war to come what a catastrophe mankind was in the eons of evolution. More so enforced after watching a documentary a couple of evenings ago about women trophy- hunters. One women ,a Croatian who goes to the US for hunting, congratulated her 10 year old on shooting a back garden robin..on tv too. Grrr ! However, we are where we are. I've just tanked up the car to drive south of Bristol tomorrow to see the steam loco Royal Scott loco travelling south. Always an impressive sight..I had the radio on and the FTSE was up 70 points . Missed the boat again,I thought.the low has gone but no, RBS even lower and Lloyds barely moved from yesterday.. It's not a good time to put money in really because there's no support even at these levels,I can see them sliding further. We need to keep an eye on the French elections too. It looks like a return for Sarkozy (centre right) could be on the cards as Hollande is very unpopular. Infact,Merkel must think that a distinct possibility too as she invited him overt to Berlin. She was very annoyed that Hollande gave in to public pressure and reversed the moderate pension reforms put in place by Sarkozy. At least Sarkozy wants less control over member States of the EU but..of course-not agriculture as France does so well from EU subsidies. I wouldn't buy a second -hand car from him to go by looks..untrustworthy,a wheeler-dealer. Infact I wouldn't buy a new one as he'd find a way to rip me off...lol. He said that he wants to change the 'free movement' ..passport/free Schengen movement system to allow only Europeans free movement within EU countries An end to talk of Turkey joining. He doesn't want that. So watch out for April and May next year. They have a long process. Junker..Matteo Renzi..Italian PM in Italy -just,according to the vote last Sunday..and Hollande see our exit plans as an opportunity for further integration .It beggars belief. I think we need to be buying and selling, not a time for holding because if these three have their way, despite Merkel recognising the problems that caused the UK to want to leave the post Article 50 negotiations will be torrid and destabilising for markets. As you say,mailman..the markets are reacting to the next bit of news. Re. ISIS..Last line in your first post…the organisation is losing its foothold and hence dream of a caliphate. They will now concentrate on attacks in the countries causing this demise. The whole debacle is the result of the Iraq war..The Chilcot report is out on Wednesday next so that will knock the EU off the front pages for a day or two.I expect Blair will be on holiday at the other end of the globe. He needs to. Word is, it's very critical
I hardly think it is that simple...I would think more money is made by banks on the interest on loans than savings interest paid... Balancing out is hardly it would seem a way of making a profit... Several pundits have said low bank rates are no good to Banks profitability, so dropping lower is obviously worse.. Meanwhile banks stocks have fallen over the past 16 months from 25% to 50% in some cases while the Bank rate has remained at .5%..others issues are involved ..the US indicated that an interest rise maybe in July and bank stocks did rise somewhat.. than now is not the case and banks shares have dropped again..... on top of the Referendum result ... Purely my logical way of thinking, others may well agree ... or disagree...Meanwhile Banks tread water it seems...or are trying to swim up stream.... at the moment.. ATB ....
Carney has indicated that rates maybe cut .. That is more bad news for Banks affecting profitability.. Good News for UK banks is slim at the present time ... and with no direction of any stability yet... It is a wait and see 3 months to come ... It is obvious that Reports and statements from the UK and EU country leaders will be coming at anytime affecting the FTSE and Bank shares and currency rates ... Likewise news of possible renegotiations will emerge and until the New UK PM is in place and a more defined direction is forth coming, then no mans land appears where we are at. in the current context.. Financial EU deals and talks will be on going from now so unexpected statements will affect the current situation time and time again... So assume nothing and you will not be disappointed .... as the saying goes..... See what next week will bring ... and future weeks up till October... For me personally and millions of others ... things are not in my control... Who is chosen to steer the ship and where we go is mystery tour at the moment... My gut feeling is that world changes that have been going, will continue and more so in Europe in the next 5 years on many issues including Financial and Immigration... and trade deals... and of course Terrorism. Just my point of view as always...ATB ..All Come on WALES.....
get back to 10p old money ? FTSE is artificially high and if it falls heavy will this send the banks falling ?
Ugh..meant Poland..Head's gone.lol
Watching extra time Portugal v Croatia. I can see Croatia winning this. Very well organised. Half- time now Hope it doesn't go to penalties. Another problem with an iPad is it's too easy to catch something and away goes your post brver to be recovered .On top of that the predictive text. You can just see one ofthese IT anaraks freaming it up. It's nothing but trouble and it can't be turned off. I might google that, maybe it can be turned off. The other problem is trying to scroll, the whole darned screen moves and not the text. Also, yes, there's more lol. I just can't seem to stop pressing the u when I want the i. or more often hit o instead of i. So p, often .... I just got 'ifton' then instead of 'often'..lol.... I get. 'if' instead of, 'of' and and vice versa . Ugh... At least the banks are much better capitalised. I posted on Lloyds not long ago re. The EU-wide dissatisfaction with the EU. As Insaid though, if one if those countrues takes a vite and elects timleave it's big trouble because of the euro. The MPs would ignore thst vote,I think ss it's only advisory. Getting rid of Junker would help no end. It's gone to penalties That's quite a turnaround in the sp. 17p ?. Holy- Moley..lol they say this time isn't as bad as 2008 but it's very frustrating to see the FTSE at a higher level than pre - referendum. Anyway, it's the FTSE 250 index that concerns us and that hasn't done so well. fAtSE futures up 200 plus as it was yesterday didn't do our shares any good. It's like watching the bus you wanted to catch driving off into the sunset without you..lol
I am glad you posted errors on the iPad.. I have the same trouble.. Frustration and a pain in the backside at times... And predictive text that sometimes predicts a load of rubbish or gobbledygook ... That's technology for you ... See what tomorrow brings.. Just thinking the SP now is equal to near 17p old money .. I believe it dropped to 10p old money after the 2008 crash.. Nearly gone full circle now ... Funny old game sharedealing isn't it ... This week has certainly been interesting in so many ways... Financially, politically and the football....still life is a lot, lot worse for many in the world... This euro malarkey will no doubt go on for a few weeks yet ... If RBS drops to 120p I may buy some more... I has dropped 240p in the last 16 months, so another 50p drop is not out of the question in the current situation ... ATB
Apologies for messed up words..I'm on the iPad, it's not good for long posts,so fiddly. End of first paragraph should read...interest rates will drop ..bad news. I think you can figure out the others.
Pretty depressing reading in those two links (mailman). However, I just don't think the passport threat is a starter. In the article it stated that not only the UK would be affected butthevUS, Asi,Australia and further on in the article, also thevEU banks so, it isn't going to happen. Interetbrates will drop, bad news. Bob..I'm not sure about being in 'interesting times'..lol b****y depressing and dishearening more like..lol.but seriously, some on Lloyds have posted their losses, one down over £50,000 plus. Another well, so much I'd have to getba calculator to see how much as he gave the number of shsresvand the price of them, he said the only benefactor of his investments now will be his daughter and grandchild. Even in dire times such as these if you can buy in at the lows we have now, have the courage,as you say,mailman...'He who dares.' etc...there's money to be made but as with your 188p purchse, mailman you may have to wait a couple of weeks until some decent news but 188p was a decent punt.
I have been holder of this unpredictable share for years One thing I have learnt is that often when you think it has reached a low point is is capable of dropping further I don t trade them at present but when I did i discovered ( the hard way) trying to catch them at the bottom is like catching a falling sword I have had a modest amount of success by watching what appears to be a low then waiting until has risen at least 5 percent from it and in theory buy in on a rise with upward momentum But these are interesting times - who knows ?
