SAGE models warn Covid hospital admissions could be higher than second wave if Indian variant is 40% more infectious than Kent strain as UK cases double in a week.

Sounds like alarmist nonsense when you consider that over half the uk pop is now vaccinated, and that is the most vunerable groups anyway. Why would it be anywhere near as bad unless the vaccine does nothing? The anger people will feel if another lockdown occurs because the uk has let irresponsible people come home from India, only to spread the infection here. Lock down those communities, leave the rest of the area's of the uk alone if they are not affected.
Weekends here !
Market is closed !
Tin hats everyone and hope we don't get any further twitter grenades tonight from p i s sed up Paul and Cognac Colin !
Not sure what those ******** are BangBangC but I agree anyway.
It's beer o'clock. Good weekend all.
treated differently to northern folk? lol no doesn't seem to be the case.
Of course people are doing what they can in the area's affected. What justification do you have for name calling though just because you live up north and feel like you are left out. I can promise you that it is rubbish everywhere. I lived in the north, it was no different.
The issue is big cities full of folks who don't behave in a way that helps themselves. It is nothing to do with being selfish, it's to do with the uk having been through 6 months of very harmful lockdowns and then being close to returning to normal, only to have the real selfish people, those flying into the uk, not isolating, not behaving in a way beneficial to the uk that could cost a lot of people their jobs and their health. I'm selfish though, even though I have not flown, visited or gone anywhere, taken any risks, seen friends, got my jab and so on and so on and so on. I've done all that I can, short of volunteering at places doing the jabs. It is weird to me that you think northerners are treated any different to people elsewhere in the uk. Where is the evidence of that? You are just upset that the big industrial cities died because it was cheaper to use slaves in other nations to produce junk for pennies.
I dont disagree with you entirely bankruptbrit but it was certainly the case that when London was the epicentre of the epidemic in Britain at the start it was not treated anywhere near as harshly as Greater Manchester was subsequently. The tories don't dare screw with London.
Bit difficult to mess with what is sadly, a huge part of the uk's economy. It is basic economics and unfortunately, because of its proximity to europe amongst other things, london is way too big for its boots. I probably won't be popular in thinking that the government needs to leave london, and move to a northern city.
Also, at the start the uk gov were too slow in acting, way too slow. So how they reacted at the beginning of the outbreak, verses how they reacted later, is not based on the same knowledge either.
I just hope they can nip these outbreaks in the bud quickly with surge vaccination etc.
Fair point. I'll just be horrified if we have to go through another regional wide lockdown because there's an outbreak in Bolton. Gov should have shut borders down to India much quicker
I thought I'd look up just how much gdp london was responsible for, well quite simply. London contributes for example 6 times the gdp of all of wales. Twice as much nearly as the whole of the north west of the uk. I really do think we need to get away from this north verses south stuff though, it is an unhelpful and toxic thought process. I do live in the south and I cannot wait to leave if I ever manage to get in a share that does well....
Another fair point. I'm certainly not of that viewpoint myself usually but last year was a pretty dark place and to be in eternal lockdown because of the local rates when that didn't happen elsewhere did start to mess with the old noggin. Nice to get your perspective and good luck with your investments.
Green grass wants the last post from last night and the first this AM. All I need chaps(eses) to confirm and augment my investment. Thanks so much! Appreciated!
penance, we are all in this together? Cept those of us you call names because you disagree with us because we're in the south of the uk and that makes as bad wrong people. You talk about division and yet you spew the hate and bile that causes that if someone says something you don't like.
We are not in this together.
Many of us have suffered in terrible ways during this pandemic, while others have raved, partied, ignored the rules, gone on holidays, flown back from risky places and so on and so on and so on.
We are not in this together.
The people who have isolated, followed the rules, not seen friends for months, lost their livelyhoods because their businesses are restricted or shut down, are the ones who are in this together. All the other people, the ones not doing as they should, are basically the enemy of a ordered society, they have extended this nightmare and continue to do that with there behaviour.
We are not in this together at all.
Some of the people in the uk are basically so selfish, they will destroy other peoples health just because they think the rules do not apply to them.
Lock down bolton and other places if need be and let the parts of the uk where people are behaving, get their lives back.
So, I found someones bank card, still well valid, laying on the floor where I walk my dog. Having looked up how to attempt to return it to the owner, i have found it is basically pointless trying so I have destroyed the card on my fire.
Now Penance would have used that card to buy himself stuff because how dare they be so selfish as not to give him money out of their own hard work. Whats mine is mine, but what is yours is also mine. I am suffering, so all must suffer even if they are not anything to do with it.
And on that note, my final word on the matter, Penance goes into the bin...as argueing about lockdowns and selfish behaviour isn't what this forum is for anyway and I apologise for having taken up so much space with the subject.
