ak, I think a lot of the cost relates to local test centres having to send off the tests to a lab.
I could imagine local test centres all over the country doing their own onsite testing using Promate and Q32 machines.
That way you get the best of both worlds. You avoid the inaccuracies of people doing their own tests at home, combined with the lower cost and speed of getting the sample tested onsite where the sample was taken.
It looks to be the microgen one. It's a lateral flow test and a direct competitor for others in the sector.
10 minute results in antibody LFT from Novacyt blog posted by Wilson .
“The new test not only identifies people who have built up antibodies in response to being infected with SARS-CoV-2, but can also be used to assess an individual’s response to immunisation. Understanding if someone has developed an immune response to SARS-CoV-2 as a result of either infection or vaccination is a pivotal step forward, not only in our understanding of the virus but also in our ability to combat it.”
Hi Wilson , is this the new “next generation “ antibody test NCYT were talking about ? It sounds pretty special ?
Digby....December is peak time for post anyway and with the Kent Variant spreading all over the UK the Royal mail got badly hit with staff sickness. I Think this summer will be alot better
SteveV, I guess they could! Like you said PROmate and the Qs are set-up for that. Could it be scaled? Either by NCYT or their partners at a price cheaper than randox?
It's not that postal/home testing isn't ideal, it's unworkable.
You can guarantee that within 2 weeks the system will collapse and people (in their thousands) will lose their flights because of carrier delays and processing delays.
Go to the review sites and check out the reviews for the testing providers in December last year. Thousands of disgruntled passengers who missed flights because they didn't get results returned before their flights. Losing thousands spent on holidays. Passenger volume will be an order of magnitude greater this summer.
Looking forward to hearing 'any' plan he has, never mind medium term. As of today we have no clue what hes planning, and of course selling. Also waiting on these acquisitions that were in the pipeline but havent materialised as yet, assuming we're still doing that, but again, no one knows...
mburns70, yes! there could even be people making money from that.
I think you'll have to do the home test while on video call.
The problem with letting Joe Public decide what test to take comes down to the fact that everyone will be going for the cheapest test (why on earth pay more?). Matter of time before Primark starts offering them for £2.99. Price cuts never come without consequences, so I expect the quality of the testing will go down, covid cases/mutations will go up, a u-turn will eventually be made to more expensive, but better testing.
Hey ak, but that is the point. NCYT don't need a lab. Promate doesn't need a lab.
They COULD , if they chose, get a big room and fill it with , say, 100 x Q32 machines and do their own in house testing. Could easily be doing 100,000 a day if the demand was there and they got it organised .
Having said that. I don't think that is the way GM is thinking. More irons in the fire maybe. Time will tell.
Looking forward to hearing his medium term plan sometime in this quarter
Cheers Wilson.. I'm a computer luddite.. it is a super read. Just what the doctor ordered.
Here's the blog

I'm confused about the tests you do at home, if you have just returned from travelling/holiday couldn't you just get a friend or relative who hasn't left their home to do the test for you just incase you are positive and don't want the hassle of isolating/not going to work ?
Johnny.....your choice your money, but I think we need to give it time, for me I'm giving it another three months....hopefully we should know alot more, we have new products as well and must give them time
Primerdesign.blog. the new antibody lateral flow test. Dated april 14th
Hey Wilson. Yes home testing is not ideal. But that is the way to bring the cost down for healthy people wanting to go on hol. Running test centres is adding a lot of cost.
The tests aren't expensive, it's the testers that ARE.!
Thinking of jumping ship now.
Some of the reasons being as follows: -
Was holding on for a reasonable bounce back and hope that could do something big in the world of travel.
Not much noise coming from NCYT since black friday and that killer 12.30 RNS.
Lack of solid info from the company in general. Relying on others on here or twitter finding bits and pieces of info which never ever gives the true picture. Lures you into a false sense of security.
Looking unlikely that any of the surge testing being undertaken is by us.
No news in a year about any US contracts
Thermofisher appearing to get their foot in the door with the main framework of the National Pathology Network
Thermofisher getting a large contract this year which will possibly be renewed.
Randox getting in with the Airlines
No news on renewal of the Unicef contract that expired last week
Back in December when travel was open for a brief window and passenger volumes were relatively low postal PCR testing was an unmitigated disaster. The providers simply couldn't handle the volume.
I physically travelled to a lab in barnard castle to get my test done and it still took 44 hours to get a result. Thousands missed flights using the postal option due to logistical issues.
What is needed is labs or processors physically located at embarkation points capable of doing a quick turnaround. Anything less is a recipe for disaster for travellers this summer.
This is what I fear most about any company going silent like this - AircraftMechanic - happened before bad news for investors with SXX - scientists extremely rarely make good ceo's - even worse at selecting PR companies to act on their behalf. Once again I find myself tweeting and e-mailing for most of the day trying to jivvy things up and promote company and its products like I did with SXX whilst, in the background, others were at work trying to undermine all of that effort simply by not keeping investor updated properly - tweeting is simply NOT GOOD ENOUGH. Rampers and de-rampers be intelligent & considerat; calm yourselves dow; have some thought about building investor frustration.
SteveV, NCYT don't run labs though. We'd need to tie up with a lab first. I know there are plenty of private PCR providers however they will need to drop their prices to compete. Can they offer £55?
Primerdesign.blog. dated the 14th. Today.
Two very small parts. Following on from the antibody news last night. An easy to use lateral flow test
Results in as little as 10 minutes.
This one should have been rns,d
60% down in 4 months . That is a fact .
I would want to know before i got to airport ....international arrivals ....
Re randox so people are taking them at home and sending them back what could go wrong!!!!
