Lti,
Not just oil & gas though....
Major supplier of metals and this will be increasing as Nickel, Cobalt and Platinium demand soars due to climate change agreements.
Lti,
Sanctions as codswallop anyway, there are always "loopholes" around a lot of them unless it's military.
Sanctions do not stop big business.
iv said before they make all this stuff next to me the military movements have been in over drive at night for the last three months its all quiet now so its all ready there
Bum
Oil and gas make up 60% of Russian exports
Lti,
Sanctions are a two way street!
Anyway it's all bluster and games, a non event.
I'm not concerned one jot and I hold a lot of companies with ties to Russia.
"If there's anything less likely than Russia invading Ukraine its the Americans going in there to try and take it back."
Russia won't invade Ukraine, so the U.S. doesn't need to think about it anyway imo. It's just a non story, and game play in the Geopolitical arena. The US going into Iraq, or invading Afganistan, doesn't come close to the repercussions of a Ukraine invasion by Russia. Going off some of the rhetoric, it's more likely that China would invade Taiwan, and I don't see how that would happen either.
If China, or Russia, want to change the world and initiate a cold war that'll last decades, then they might move, but is that what they want?

''its the Americans going in there to try and take it back.''
but there would be a severe financial cost to Russia to pay - sanctions etc

"This fear we feel, now, about Ukraine, is phase 1 in the West's (probably unstoppable) decline. The US, NATO, and democracy are losing control of the world. Let's all hope Russia steps back from the brink..."
Skier, I'm not sure why you're posting about this on a Lloyds Forum, or what your point is. Russia could invade the Ukraine, and the US as the foremost military power in the World, will probably decide to stop short of a full on conventional war to retake the country; But there's no chance of Russia going into Ukraine, imo.
History suggests that invasions are unsustainable, over time, unless the invaded population are sympathetic to the invading force, which is why Russia and the US were unsuccessful in Afganistan.
If Russia did invade the Ukraine, then the World would be back in to a 1960/70's Cold War type era, and Russia wouldn't want that. It would initially be difficult for Europe, due to Energy dependency, but it would likely drive the EU to become a full on military union, possibly morphing into a military as powerful as the US, but literally on Russia's doorstep. Geopolitically it would drive the UK to rejoin the new European state emerging into a military federal Union, and replacing the EU.
What I've just stated, may be supposition, but it's highly likely that would happen, as it's what France are pushing for now. Russia wouldn't want another super power emerging right next door, as that would eventually lead to the Eastern block being destabilised over time. Russia invading Ukraine, no chance, unless they want to create a rod for their own back.

no doubt you are stockpiling in that bunker of yours
Yup, Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, even Sweden and Norway, anywhere in the East or North or Arctic, look (and feel) very afraid of Russia's newfound global power.
This fear we feel, now, about Ukraine, is phase 1 in the West's (probably unstoppable) decline. The US, NATO, and democracy are losing control of the world. Let's all hope Russia steps back from the brink...
Russia cares not a jot about the rest of the world.
Russia was able to waltz into deepest England (Salisbury) and kill / maim people with WMDs in 2018 -- and the West could do nothing about it.
Lol. Germany, France, Italy and Spain have lost every major war since the 1800s. The chance of the EU stopping Russia marching into Ukraine, or East Poland, or anywhere on the Eastern borders, if Russia really wants to, is about zero.
You gotta hope this is just posturing from Russia, for concessions. Or that they only take a tiny part of East Ukraine and it lasts a fortnight. Because a full-on war, over a month or two, bringing Ukraine back into the New Russian Empire, is not a good prospect for anyone.
The rest of the world are watching Russia. its not just the UK providing assistance. Remember that other little bloc called the EU ! Jesus you may as well get your sandwich board out ! But your thought process on the forensics of Russian dead soldiers made me laugh out loud !
Yes, Ukraine looks terrifying, right now.
Putin's buildup on the border is 2 x bigger than the entire UK army.
If Russia piles in, Ukraine will be overrun in weeks.
That, in turn, will accelerate China to take Taiwan.
And Taiwan builds 60% of all the world's electronic chips.
Some say Russia will then move to take other parts of Europe, like East Poland (near Belarus).
UK is also supplying arms to Ukraine.
If Ukraine takes out large numbers of Russian soldiers with UK arms in a war, Mr Putin will not be a happy chappy.
The scenario for a full-on global or European war and economic crash is closer now than it has been since the last century.
its all about nordstream2 we need to just leave the Russian alone let them finish the pipe line
Theosus.
Yes what can go wrong, Biden in the USA is now even being ridiculed by the Democratic media, Boris is hanging by a gossamer thread. Putin is threatening, but I don't think he will invade, but I could be wrong, he is proving his point just by posturing if the EU/US starts any trouble off comes the gas. No one will go to war over the Ukraine any volunteers on this board?.
We put our manufacturing in the hands of possible enemies as you say Turkey and China. I am sure business would have our stuff made in Afghanistan by the Taliban if it increased their bonus payments .
doesn't look like it according to US today, nice

Craig Erlam, senior market analyst at Oanda, said that uncertainty continued to dominate after a "disappointing start" to earnings season.
"Inflation and interest rate concerns are going nowhere soon and with traders now increasingly considering the possibility of hikes larger than 25 basis points, the possibility of more pain in stock markets is very real," he said.
"The idea that we could go from rock bottom rates and enormous bond-buying to rapid tapering, 50 basis point hikes, and earlier balance sheet reduction is quite alarming. We're talking about markets that have become very accustomed to extensive support from central banks and very gentle unwinding when appropriate. This is quite a shock to the system," he added.
