Lottie123 In relation to your 04.36 post I presume that was a typo when they said the competition will take 2 years.
I presumed, it will take 2 years to build NOT 2 years to make a decision as it says. Mind you, given how long these f ck wits have taken so far with the ML and this contract, I would not put it past them.
Fantastic news that competition is finally open. The timeline of 2 years is likely incorrect. This article explains very well what's needed in terms of timelines

Sorry for posting twice, it wasn't showing first time so thought the link was prohibited! Happy Friday all
Excellent news ,let's hope we get some contracts
Bubble2021 In relation to your 09.12 post I think Team Resolute has a fair chance as BMT are respected Naval Architects who have worked with the MOD. Navantia has recent experience of building similar vessels for other Navies. So overall it would be a close call but Team Resolute should prevail due to the need for the vessels having to be built to time and budget which some members of the all British team have struggled with.
Certainly there is hope but the OBN is stronger than ever thanks to the demise of Grammar Schools: anyone remember Osborne, Cameron and BJ in the Bullingdon Club photo?
Yikes I can spaff the highest, bagsy a go at PM!
This article adds a bit more inforamtion https://www.defensenews.com/global/europe/2021/05/21/brits-launch-logistics-ship-competition-again/
Here is the official announcement https://www.gov.uk/government/news/fleet-solid-support-ships-competition-launched
Lobbying is required, our Royal Navy will receive three ships from Team Resolute on time for the price of two from BAe etc.
When was the last time BAe etc delivered anything on time and to budget? MR4, Astute Class, Typhoon etc etc etc. They can make an omelette but not in time for breakfast!
Nigel, don't disagree with you there imho
NigelHaemoglobin In relation to your 12.16 post I note that being unable to delver contracts on time and on budget has not been an issue before. The Defence Select Committee has an open inquiry in relation to Navy procurement. It is still open to submissions perhaps a few submissions making a similar point while answering the questions posed might jolt the MOD. My submission has gone in the deadline is 30 May 2021.
We are but plankton Stokey, good effort though!
NigelHaemoglobin In relation to your 14.42 post if select committees afford us the opportunity to make submissions to them on areas of interest to us we should. This way our concerns are on the record in a way that we cannot be sued.
Stokey, re your 12.35 post for contracts being not on time and budget . How would you apportion the blame for this ... shipyard to mod
drango In relation to your 15.14 post I do not have sufficient information to do such an apportionment. However where the contractor regularly going over time and budget the question must come do you still use them. If INFA can prove they can deliver on time and on budget this would make it easier to pick up work forcing the other yards to improve efficiency.
stokey12,
In relation to your post at 15.53, how do you propose that INFA offers that proof, given that the company has no experience of shipbuilding?
BlairPeach In relation to your 16.02 post for the FSS contract assurance would come from the performance of Navantia who would be doing a knowledge transfer to improve processes at the INFA sites. For future contracts it will be from the performance on the FSS contract and other similar contracts. In addition there are the ship repair and refits. You have the refit of the Celtic Explorer which was done on time. In fact I think that was done a couple of days early.
I would observe that Appledore does have recent experience of building Yachts and most of the people who worked at the yard at that time may still be available. The same is also true of the former workers at H&W.
Nice reply there stokey ;))
The government are committed to reigniting the nations shipbuilding capability. It knows the building block of the industry will need help in re-establishing in capability.
We are in s good position ready for orders and as Boris said we need to start shipbuilding industry again in our country and have thousands of apprenticeships ,training , experience d engineers and fabricaters
I think with this contract the question of who gets the contract will depend on the weighting. I suspect the tender will have three components price, technical ability and social value. The weighting attached to each will be important. If greater weight is given to social value then Team Resolute would in my most humble opinion be in good stead. It has the geographic reach into three of the four home nations. In addition it as an apprenticeship that will help develop necessary skills. Also the tie up with Navantia will bring with it a knowledge transfer that would upskill the workforce. If greater weight is given to technical knowledge then Team Resolute has the advantage that Navantia has the recent experience of building similar ships.
