Difference is Genedrive product has a unique freeze dried assay which means it can be shipped abroad very cost effectively and efficiently, from my research their market will be middle to low income countries. You have to remember as well Genedrive are producing two different type of tests not just the one test . They are targeting not only hospitals and laboratories but individuals at home. They can test at around 10,000 per hour so could easily meet targets and help reach the rapid testing targets in various parts of the world.
Also, you have to consider which test is the most comfortable ? Saliva from the back of the throat is not comfy it’s not what we want , throat swabs is what they are doing now. Novacyt avact do the saliva swab from throat test as I understand. Genedrive simpler test ?
Also I note that genedrive product for viral testing has been used by the USA army. Since we are verified by the US army there is a strong chance we will be able to move quickly into the us market with the validation
Hi Hants, for me it’s around spreading risk. Genedrive alreay has product in market and shown to work. They are applying this to Covid like novocyt in 5at respect. Genedrive is already in the nhs and also used by the us DOD, they bought lots of units in the past and just ordered 500 more with the test cartridges.
avacta as far as I see have never converted their tech into a commercial diagnostic product, do you know otherwise? Something you can buy today off the shelf? I’m not share why not, partnering with a supplier doesn’t solve that, it could be just good salesmanship?
For me genedrive is underpriced and has potential as its products are in market. My opinions only, if avacta have a commercial diagnostics product with proven clinical sales my opinion might change!
Lol. Just read my mind. Or was it the other way around. Exactly my thinking. Covid19 will spread like mad in the 3rd world. The need for a simple accurate highly mobile low cost test will be imperative
My thoughts are that this is the test for the 3rd world in remote locations, lower standard health care systems. Fills a gap below the current offerings in terms of mobility and scale. Riskier yes but upside massive.
Did I read somewhere that genedrive already have some contracts with the US defence department?.
The mobility of the test would be ideal for the military and less devolved countries surely.
2 tests in development. 1st for hospital / lab use which can determine whether someone is infected with coronavirus. 2nd test for use outside hospital environment. CEO -
”The key aspect of Genedrive is that we can deliver a genetic result close to the patient, not many companies can do that…We are aiming to use our knowledge of infectious disease development, our manufacturing capability, our patents and our suppliers to deliver a result that can be done outside of a main hospital that can be performed within an hour. That’s what people want, they want a fast result”, he added.
Another advantage for GDR test is that it is freeze-dried, and this does not require refrigeration to be transported and distributed globally.
I don't think market demand will allow genedrive or novacyt or to become obsolete.
I am invested in both and will probably buy into avacta on Tuesday, I wanted to buy in today but decided to top up my genedrive and novacyt.
Basicly I think all three could do another 100%+ on Tuesday
Best of look to you, stay safe everyone!
I'm invested in Novacyt and Avacta. Novacyts success is their speed in bringing a product to market. The potential with Avacta is that their product (if successful) can be used by consumers in their everyday lives as it just needs a saliva sample.
Avacta are a few weeks off at least, but as are Genedrive as far as I can tell. Genedrive (and Novacyt) might find their products are obsolete if Avacta are successful. Obviously Novacyt are signifcantly ahead and already have a product out there, but I'm struggling to see the upside in Genedrive.
I've only done 20 mins of research and reading, but just looking for other's thoughts. I'm wondering if it's worth having a punt here, but not convinced at the moment. The competition seems to be better or further advanced.
Any nuggets of information that I might be missing here?
