Wow! Do you really need to personally attack me simply because I have a different opinion from you? I'm not a regular poster on these boards (I can see you are) but that's never happened to me before: that's disappointing.
If a totalitarian government is looking to strip me of my rights & freedoms, I'm certainly not going to enable them to do that: I'm going to fight them tooth & nail. And I'm CERTAINLY not going to spend my hard-earned money to help them do it.
Not getting into a tit-for-tat with you EC, not my style. I've said my piece. You disagree. That's the end of it.
So is having the app worse or better for Co's selling mobile phones?
Hmmm.
I think we have an idiot posting here.
Clue. Not me. LOL! Have a guess which one!
sales. FYI the app won'r run on I phones before the i7. I wonder if that was deliberate by Apple? I mean they are the sort of Company that stopped putting the standard 3.5mm headphone socket on their phones so you had to buy their lead etc.... Nice people?
All IMHO.
EC, you think people are going to spend money on new phones just so their tyrannical government can track and trace them? Are people really stupid enough to pay for their own slavery?
"Imagine just how stupid the average person is.....then realise that half of the population are even more stupid than that". George Carlin (I believe).
People will buy phones for Christmas (assuming it's not "cancelled" by the Satanists behind this virus scam) so they can play the latest games, or upgrade to 5G (if they think that's important), not so they can be monitored 24/7.
I had always thought that the phone side of the business was a lot less relevant to the overall turnover of the business, than for example "Curry's" or "PC World" which I understand have both been performing very well in recent months
Amazing how slow the market cottoned on to this when it's been all over the news for several days.
I mean the Company is called Dixons CARPHONE. there is the clue, he second word beginning with the "C".
Mind boggling.
All IMHO.
To say again!
encouraging folks to upgrade their mobiles.
I find it totally astonishing the sp has not yet responded as far as I can see.
Completely and totally INSANE.
So is the government app going to make people buy less phones then? Oh, of course!!! How did I get that so wrong!!
All IMHO.

work on any I phones before i7. I have an I5s. I may upgrade (been thinking of it for a while).
Why is the market so firking stupid sometimes? Dixons carphone sell mobile phones last time I heard.
So 66 million people in the UK. How many have iphones older than I7? Are we talking just one million?
I don't think so. I'd guess several million (i4 through i6). Out of the several million how many will upgrade for safety?
Let's just call it a measley one million................
And the sp went DOWN today............... The penny will drop, probably tomorrow or Monday after the papers report x millions have downloaded the app.
All IMHO.
so one presumes a load of mobile phones will be bought.
phone sales as people seek another way to help keep safe. Apparently in Scotland over 500,000 people downloaded the app THE FIRST DAY! Still there are 66 million prople in the country approximately.................
It simply MUST increase mobile phone sales. 100% must do.
All IMHO.

fall back a tad. IMHO some big player is selling tranches at 96p keeping the lid on the sp. When they are done we will be moving North again IMHO. The trading statement was very good the other week. We have the Government app to boost phone sales too.

new government app which will no doubt increase mobile phone sales haveing the desired effect. Onwards and upwards!!

Interestingly when Baldock came he said he would turn round mobile and get much better deals from mobile operators and so far he has lost 3 of them. Three 02 and now EE.
How they can still claim to give the best deals by being impartial when they have lost 3 operators is beyond me.
I suspect something is going on here that we don't know about probably them throwing in the towel with mobile and just having it as another (much smaller) department instore.
Sp has picked up a bit since we commented, is it something we wrote I wonder ? 130p would be in the right direction in the shorter term for me and a regular divi would be welcome too :)

Can't believe the government is doing this when airports on their knees! Boris! get a grip.
you can add that to the fantastic trading update the other day. Onwards and UPWARDS!!!
mrb.. all good points, i'm in my 50's and as you're retired i assume 50+ too, i started on the shop floor in the 80's and worked my socks off to board level come 2000, so fully understand where you are coming from in relation to staff training and leading by example. i fully enjoyed my store management roles in the midlands and the daily interaction with staff and customers, versus sitting behind a desk looking at figures and having meetings about meetings! back then, albeit without a minimum wage in place, staff i feel were happier as they had a decent living wage, had regular repeat customers, had far less competition, were not relying on upselling everything on commission to obtain kick backs or was there any such thing as zero contract hours...and thats the days of retail without the internet, chuck that in the mix with the worry of low margins, lack of footfall and looking over their shoulders if they dare to take a day sick etc, then i guess there is not much to smile sadly, and thats without even considering covid. its very hard out there for the young adults at the bottom rung of retail and things have changed considerably, some for the better some for the worse. i agree and take your points, a smile is always nice but in 2020 i no longer expect it. back on point DC. has the benefit of both the store network and hugely successful online experience, with virtual assistants and hands free collection points etc. i assume there will be further job losses and store closures as the business model changes in the coming years, this should in fact be seen as a positive as they are quick to react to the ever changing and challenging market conditions, i'm here for the medium - long term and feel confident in seeing 130p within two years.
Hi do8erman, thank you for your response, maybe I wasnt very clear, I had already made my mind up to purchase at this store before I had even left home. I maybe should have said that I was observing with my now retired hat on. and yes maybe I do have too much time on my hands, I try to fill it with a well meaning and positive outlook. I too was a Store Manager with 28 years service and am fully aware of peoples back stories. I had the best Job and would do it all over again with a genuine smile on my face which becomes infectious amongst all collegues. I would give my time to them to raised moralif needed and inturn I would expect them to make thier customers visit to the store an enjoyable one too. With regard to the forum we are on, hopefully my observations only suggest that a genuine smile and a greeting cost nothing and just might add to the bottom line.
mrbushi.. are you saying you only purchased the oven after research, travelling to the store, waiting outside etc... because you got a smile and if you didn't receive that smile you would have gone elsewhere and wasted further time until you got a smile from someone? some people really have too much times on their hands! i personally buy on extensive research of product, reviews, inc. warranty and price, a smile is a bonus but as i usually purchase online its usually irrelevant. of course happy smiling american style store staff can be nice, but it can also come across as false and o.t.t at times. perhaps these staff have little to smile about, you don't know their back story, maybe they have partners that have lost their jobs or ill elderly relatives etc etc, they won't share their problems with you on the shop floor and still sell you an oven, but courtesy, product knowledge and doing the deal will always outway a smile in my book. what the point of a smile if they don't know basic product info.. just my view as someone that spent 25 years in retail management for a well known high street chain.
At the weekend our built in oven failed. I researched online and yesterday went to my local Currys PCW store. I was early and waited at the door for opening time. Inside I could see the "morning brief" taken by an animated supervisor taking place. in the 10 or so minutes I observed the faces and body language of all participating. One member of the team did look at me and gave me a bright smile, the rest still looked like they needed another couple of hours in bed. The doors opened and one of the management team filtered and let members of the public in accordingly. While I was in there, all were going about there work but there was no enthusiasm or smiles the faces of the staff. Thankfully I found myself being served by mr smiley. I wont mention his name here but I will give him a glowing reccomendation when I get the customer feedback survey. Whatever the challenges at this time that Covid has instore for us all. I couldnt help but think what an opportunity to turn depression and the mood of the nation into sales. Im sure if the one thing all the staff were to do was smile & be entusiastic in their work there would be a noticable improvement in sales in this and every other store. I will close by adding yes and thanks to mr Smiley I did buy the Oven with 5 year warranty, Delivery & Installation, and old appliance taken away for free recycling.
obviously.
So trading update very, very good, then the government confirms the app that will bost mobile ohone sales.
Which way is the sp going???
All IMHO.
