Cineworld’s share price is still 40% lower than it was one year ago. One cloud hanging over the firm is a recent Canadian court ruling that it must pay rival Cineplex C$1.2bn in damages for a failed acquisition deal.
The UK company is appealing that verdict, but if Cineworld loses I think it will be difficult to find the cash without further fundraising activity.
For me, this situation is too much of a gamble. If everything goes right for Cineworld, I think the shares might double this year.
But there’s a lot that could still go wrong. And with nearly $10bn of potential liabilities, I think the shares could also fall sharply in 2022. I’ll be staying away.

Well sell and move on.
If you make investment on the back of this your more of a fool than them.
Yep please don’t buy if you feel it’s risky.
Number, the article highlights the potential upside as well as the potential downside and risks. $10 billion liabilities is a major concern - if you don't think it is, I'm sorry but I'd call that being in denial.
Yes Stocks are risky but ive got this stock as a very strong BUY. Congratulations to all of the long term holders. 53p in 2 months time hopefully.
As long as you can afford to buy, it’s a buy from me .
@Giantsquid
Please stop trying to fool people. We all know the risk/return profile of cineworld. The motley articles you are referring are worthless, just like the numbers you are mentioning. Leasing liabilities aren’t some debt facilities you need to repay at once. They are spread over a very long period. So please stop trying to confuse or scare off people with wrong arguments
Giantsquid - I am all for critical commentary on a given equity choice, but referencing your investment decision with Motley Fool is like referencing your MBA dissertation using the Daily Star or the Sun. Good luck with your investments. You’ll need it.
This guy is back again after few days. For those who are reading this giantsquid’s post , please ignore him. He is only trying to scare people away as he shorted CINE heavily and is trying with all his might to scare people away to make little money. I can’t stand this as I have been watching his drama throughout the past few months and it’s disgusting to see when someone is trying to manipulate others with false information. This is the new world anyways. His name is appropriate, giant squid , he is using his dark ink to trick others ??
@giantsquid , where were you the last few days ? You got burned with your short and was forced to buy . Now you sold with today’s high and again you have decided to short .
Due whatever you are doing is fine , why do you need to preach and scare investors ? Are you messiah ?
Giant Squid - im not selling buddy! ride on to 80p!
Imagine selling or buying shares because of some random poster who is most likely sitting in a pile of mess living in sub standard conditions
