DATE:11/11/08 SOURCE:Flight International China's AVIC eyes western general aviation firm By Siva Govindasamy China's national aerospace holding company plans to buy a western general aviation firm to boost its presence in the sector, and to help it acquire the technology to develop indigenous light aircraft and business jets in the coming years. Negotiations with an unnamed western company are ongoing and an agreement could be reached by the end of the year, says China Aviation Industry Corp (AVIC). It did not reveal further details about deal, which is being led by its subsidiary AVIC General Aviation. If the deal goes through, it could help AVIC fulfil its aim of getting a foothold in the global general aviation and business aviation sectors. Last year, the company had examined the possibility of buying Dutch firm Stork NV's aerospace division. That was eventually sold to UK-based private equity group Candover Investments. Apparently they are consistantly in the top 20 performing investment co's. worth a buy in long term?Any opinions please would like to build my retirement nest egg.
Many private equity stocks are all of a sudden trading at once in a lifetime levels. Presumably forced sellers are involved, together with the assumption that the end of the financial world is nigh, In the case of Candover, management, with a superb track record over many years, were buying at well over twice current levels only a few months ago, since when little has apparently changed . The share price is at an unprecedented 60% discount to asset value with an easily afforded dividend of over 7%. Fill your boots with a spread of these while the going is good. Dunedin and Graphite ditto.
