Great stuff ash and bakky.
If anyone has read the govt moonshot details then you would know that as well as billions spent on these rapid tests, there is still plenty of cash (billions) earmarked for PCR going forward over the next 2.5 years. There is plenty of cash for both tests and probably anything 'new' that springs up!
I asked the company about rapid testing against PCR a couple of weeks ago, reply below;
Thanks for your email.
Antigen PCR is not an old style of test - it's always going to be the backbone of any nation's testing strategy as the accuracy and reliability of this lab-based testing can never be replicated by rapid tests. Antigen PCR is what is used in all NHS, Lighthouse and contracted commercial laboratories in the UK.
Lateral flow tests for antibody testing and antigen testing are effective for screening - but not to provide a clinically relevant results at the moment. If an individual is positive from a lateral flow antigen test then they would still be required to take an antigen PCR test for a true diagnostics test.
Hoping for some news this week. International regulatory approvals and covid sale numbers would be nice. News of moonshot participation would be fantastic. We need figures in order to gauge what number covid testing sales to expect. LR did say at the agm we have a capacity of 500k tests from end of September till the end of the year. Would be really appreciated if we could have more insight into these sales numbers so far as the most recent TU only gives us an insight into only the testing capacity in Manchester. This will then allow the SP to move upwards from these levels. Saliva tests will be an additional tool but the gold standard is the oropharyngeal/nasopharyngeal covid PCR tests, which the clarigene test is. The clarigene test is also a two gene test which is the requirement of certain countries. This test will therefore still play an important role irrespective of the increase in the LFT tests. As per what we have been told the clarigene test is a fantastic test, we just need the figures and numbers of sales now. Come on LR show us the numbers!!
Fo Frankie,
Yes, pacman, I 've said they will have to outsource to get bigger numbers. I think Ncyt have ten or more manufacturing for them atm.
I don't think LR was even looking to do their own test originally. I reckon it came about when Ncyt didn't extend their agreement for Ygen to do the full kits. That is when I think they decided to do their own test imo.
To be fair to LR he has always firmly said that Covid will only be an 'adjacency' to the core stuff, however I do think he has missed a trick or two with Covid.
I'm just hoping people don't expect any/if govt work to be mahoooosive!
For me, we should be in a stronger position during and post pandemic. We benefit with stronger Covid revenue whilst core dips a bit, then when eventually Covid dips core should come back stronger, so win win!
We do need some news gaps filling though asap!
There are ways and means of increasing capacity Bakky.
Outsourcing, licensing etc. Ncyt didn't have the capacity initially, lol.
I think from day one when LR sat round the boardroom table and the decision was taken to embark on thier own test development, it was done to backstop losses in core business that they were already seeing, even if we weren't.
The ambition has never been there to scale up to anything other than a bit of extra income while the core business take a hit.
Clarigene has been ce marked for months now. Where are the other regulatory approvals, partnership deals etc.
We were led to beleive its the best test of if's kind on the market, yet it gets no coverage of any type in the media.
With a bit of ambition Clarigene If as good as we are told, could of been licesned for production the world over.
But true to form, everything covid related from Ygen is pure speculation.
Peoples expectations do need adjusting, but they need adjusting by Ygen giving us the full story. An absence of info will cause speculation.
I think people's expectations need adjusting more than anything else!! Some will think 20/30k a month is 'decent' but I suspect most won't. As I've said, we only have a relatively small capacity so not sure what people expect as 'decent'? We can't do millions a month!!
Promotion is always an uncertainty. We just have to many irons in the fire to report on all the efforts being made and leads that are being explored. General Info has been better recently but specific product info/advertising has to be targeted to valid prospects.
I keep asking myself what’s next also. I expect to see all the Covid stocks rise tomorrow and that includes Yourgene.
In my opinion what should be happening is 1) better promotion of the company’s products and contracts won 2) Return to a positive EPS which must be imminent 3) Allocate money in the bank to accelerate timeframe for Nasdaq listing.
I stand to be corrected but I’m fairly sure if we carry on as we are SP wise we’ll be rewarded with much of the same.
Onwards we go.
Not sure what I am waiting for next from Ygen ...

Pacman1 I did read your post yesterday, I have views on LR but I won’t post because I don’t know him and I may be completely wrong. Tbh I invested in YG after watching a few LR interviews, I’m not sure he’s done a filmed interview since I have been a shareholder (early February).
Regarding the “£millions to go at” obviously needs to be well managed, I see YG as a similar company to the company I work for where 95% of the total employment are skilled staff therefore the salary bill is higher than maybe the norm, obviously Rees needs to invest in new staff to grow the business but this still needs managing internally to make sure each employee is creating wealth for the company.
Masterblaster I have in previous posts mentioned profits, but Open Orphan has pushed on without making profits, if memory serves me right end of June figures they announced £4/4.5 million loss.
Onwards we go.
We've got millions to go at in the bank after the placing masterblaster.
Colsoul. I mentined it yesterday about LR and the fact he simply doesn't like to give anything in the way of communication other than the bare minimum. The TU was a case in point. There was so much missing. That's just his modus operandi and we will have to live with it even if it appears to be counterproductive.
Not sure what I am waiting for next from Ygen. I almost feel as though it's just a waist of time for them to release rns's. They are all just met with meh. I was expecting more, type of feeling.
Still positive, albeit, less so then before the TU. Still waiting for the one where we go, 'wow'.
Simple answer is lack of profits. Break even soon we hope, or not if Lyn is economical with the truth again!!
Any ideas as to how much cash we're burning each month?
Think we all agree Yourgene’s SP should be considerably higher than it currently is, I certainly do so I’m pondering over why it’s not. Lots of investors on this BB (including myself) have given views on here with opinions to why it’s not, company is not being promoted, we’re waiting for CE approval, market sentiment, awaiting RNS, minus EPS, lockdown, to name a few.
I have been looking back at this years RNS’s but can’t find 1 RNS than mentions we have won an order for £x amount from Joe Bloggs.
I look at for example Open Orphan who are a similar size MCap company and trade a similar market to YG they RNS orders received giving monetary values something YG doesn’t seem to do. Open Orphan were 8p when we were 8p back in March now they’re 26p where we are 16p. OO trade with a bigger minus EPS than YG does. At the end of the day it’s all about the numbers and think YG should be more open with orders received.
Onwards we go.
