Mikey, I'll tell you where we are going to finish, at around 1.10 once the gloss has fallen off the Cevian chat.
If results are bad or worse than expected perhaps even lower.
Until VOD do something about the monumental debt pile this will never get any better.
So 1.10 it is then & I see the pathetically predictable drag downwards has already started.
fleccy , interesting post. I'm waiting on results and a boost. Got in at 114p so doing well so far. Liking the dividend too. Looks positive for 2022.
Here we go - is America going to drag us down - where are we going to finish ?
Hello robeo. On this site, London south east, click on trading & you can open an I.S.A. account which is free to hold your shares in. The dealing charge is £9.95 flat rate per trade, the same as it's nominee dealing account. If you don't deal often definitely worth moving. I used to be with I.G. but had to open a C.F.D. or spread betting account (dangerous)to get a free I.S.A. account. They later started charging for my I.S.A. so I moved. If you regularly deal then there may be better deals. I also used to be with H.L. but I am much better off with London south east. I think H.L. charge more than the 9.95 I pay for dealing as well as the I.S.A. charge. Good luck. Shame about today so far, but we all knew the sp could fall back, so no point complaining eh? just keep throwing the dice!
I've taken a look at Cevian, and there's a few key points that caught my eye:
"Cevian (i) acquires substantial minority ownership positions in undervalued European listed companies and (ii) works with the boards and management teams of those companies to advance initiatives designed to increase their long-term competitiveness, profitability and sustainability."
"Cevian generally invests in sound companies that are overlooked, misunderstood or out-of-favor with investors."
" It is typically the largest or second largest owner of its portfolio companies. Cevian has a clear vision of the potential of each of its companies, and commonly maintains its commitment to companies for 5+ years.
Cevian’s optimal investment size is EUR 500m to EUR 1.5 billion per company, though larger investments are not excluded."
https://www.ceviancapital.com/strategy/
EUR 1.5 billion is around £1.25 Billion, and assuming an average purchase price of around £1.20, we could assume they may have purchased around 1 to 1.25 Billion shares, assuming they invested the full £1.25 Billion, or 3.6 to 4.6%. In the abscence of an RNS, I'm assuming their undisclosed purchase was sub 3%.
'why has it not been done before by others'
I suppose the regulators and others wanted something like 'equivalence' across the (european) telecom markets who subscribe to the WTO rules. The migration from 1G to 5G is perhaps now near the end of the regulatory life cycle? Activist investors are perhaps a return to good old fashioned capitalism or they make the policy makers feel like they are really making a difference. Nick has done a good 'fiduciary' job, but what next if not realising value from restructuring etc?
They also seem to have little effect. Pearson are down since they got envolved and Aviva are flat.
thats my div reinvested, they cant take all of it back or Vod would be worthless!
Payment date 4 February = 3.75826p
well I fell a few hundred feet this morning but thank goodness for my ice axe and managed another top up
Interesting article from the gridian
https://www.theguardian.com/business/nils-pratley-on-finance/2022/jan/31/an-activist-investor-could-be-just-what-vodafone-needs
It is all a bit weird how we all think ( perhaps except N Read) that an activist investor that people know little about is coming to rescue Vodafone from a fete they have had 30 years to work on. It perhaps really show how utterly useless the board of mates have been and continue to be. Seems also a bit weird that this small % has so much influence, if that is the case why has it not been done before by others?
Back to falling usual daily falls
mikey why dont you trade it if you think its going down, sell and buy cheaper
"No sunshine with this share - we all know whats going to happen . We will probably beat estimates and drop like the last 3 years"
In my opinion, the Telecom sector has been beaten down to allow big players to sweep up stock on the cheap. To back up what I've just stated, you only have to look at the Billion directed into UK Altnets, yet we're led to believe that Telecoms don't deserve fair valuations. Telecoms are set become must own stocks over the next decade, in my opinion, due to the future dependency of 5G IOT devices and applications. Everything will be monitored,or controlled, in the not too distant future, and 5G will be used for much of the communications to the various devices; Things like driverless cars, Traffic control systems, and any other metro wide applications will likely use 5G IOT, and estimates put the IOT market at around $1 Trillion by 2030, with much of that going to Telecom providers.
Price now filled gap from friday close to monday open at 127.60, will be interesting if it can recover from here as usually get the dip back to previous close on a gap mkt, ive added here
No sunshine with this share - we all know whats going to happen . We will probably beat estimates and drop like the last 3 years
Mikey, you really are a ray of sunshine ??
Never mind.
Buy dips
Trim in a rally
Rinse and repeat and collect the dividend.
Great for trading and averaging down towards £0.00p and beyond.
Well not the start you would really want a day before q3 results - still we are use to this now - happens everytime and we will no doubt be back below £1.20 pretty soon
https://www.bloomberg.com/opinion/articles/2022-01-31/activist-tilt-at-vodafone-has-plenty-going-for-it"At the same time, Vodafone is a sprawling conglomerate operating in 21 countries. Its main market is Germany, but there are also businesses in Italy, the U.K., Spain, Portugal and Greece, as well as Turkey, Egypt and throughout Africa. The potential benefits of cross-border synergies are probably not that large. From shareholder perspective, complexity makes the investment hard to assess. One way forward would be to simplify the group by pulling out of markets where it’s struggling. Spain, which is bitterly competitive, is the obvious example. That in itself might not free up much capital to invest elsewhere, but there are also questions about why a firm that’s predominantly a European telecoms company should also operate in emerging markets. An unsentimental review of the portfolio could potentially lead to a more focused and higher returning business that’s easier to understand."

What a turnaround - at last someone has broken the deadline. Cevian have been brave enough to take a discounted cheap seat in the house - that doesn't only cover investment costs but provides a profit, can only grow, GLA. Simple model - in time will work +50%.per their average..
Cevian can afford to take its time with Vodafone cashflow wise - with a +5% yield and their Interest costs are zero, the profit pays for the Entertaining, travel and meetings - Brill idea for only 810m shares or 3% which will only increase. IMO DYOR it's a win win an news of Vantage Towers 1st FEb, Voda 2nd Feb and Mpesa to float next 3 months . GLA
Thanks for that losealot, think i will have to stick with HL, and work out the best way to minimise the charges, there's also the costs of selling everything up and starting again, so not easy really
Cheers mate
make sense of it twice even.
Robleo, I just checked there is no custody charge with Ig if you make 3 trades a month in either a share dealing a/c or Isa A/c, it dosnt matter which.
However the first 3 trades you make are £8 and are then charged at £3 per trade. if you dont make a trade in any one month you start at £8 again.
Custody charge if you make no trades is £24.
Hope that makes sense.
