With the Covid cases on the rise, we are probably getting into second wave like in Spain and France. This should be a good news for Tesco who invest massively on providing new delivery slots, shouldn't it?
Going by last dividend the share price climbed pre dividend then dropped off afterwards, those holding might be better of selling just prior to ex dividend, assuming it rises this time..
Since the last Divi of 6p at the £2.35 mark Tesco have failed to get back there and stay. 212 to 225 is more the band these have floated between since.
So another Divi, will take further pence off the price with little scope to recover it.
I think it’s better to let the price drop then buy in rather than buy in to get a Divi then watch your holding stay in the red for months.
To note, has the Divi amount been declared?

hi rosewall if you search tesco news now in Google that should get there.
I have checked Google and Bing but can't see anything beyond July 2020. Hopefully he article will appear in the next day or so
That's good. How reliable is the press. Can you post the text?

I understand your point of view and I dont think we are far apart. You do have to divide the market place into at least two segments; those that can afford quality and those that can't. Those with cars can afford to go to out of town centres can afford it, those on benefits or do not have a car can't (you can't take a week's family shopping on the bus with a couple of toddlers. Many people I have spoken with will continue to do home shopping for the newly recognised convenience but go into store for fresh / short life goods. I don't think it will stay at the same level, indeed, there has been a drop off in home deliveries but it won't go back to where it was either.
I tend to disagree, I feel shoppers will always gravitate towards best value with quality and really dont mind going out of their way to get it. Admittedly, they have lost market share during the lock down but this will all revert back when we eventually get back to normal. You cant base future trends on these unprecedented times which is why I think Ocado share price is so over priced.
As you know judging weight, quality, welfare aspects of any purchase is not easy. On a pure money basis Lidl / Aldi may come out on top. However, not having home deliveries has really damaged those companies. If the corner shop can offer home deliveries then this has been a massive home goal for Lidl / Aldi. Those companies will have no choice but to go to home deliveries if this way of buying reflects a permanent shift. The additional costs will be absorbed in the form of higher prices.
Well some of my friends now shop at Lidl and save £20 a week on their shop with the odd few bits bought at Tesco, Sainsbury etc .
Also I may add they do a cracking s, blanc from the noir valley that’s not far off a sancere Andover £5 cheaper and is currently going down very well.!
Sounds really cheap and trashy with digital scratchcards etc shopping in Lidl will be like taking your granny to bingo poor attempt to challenge a proven loyalty scheme like Clubcard.
Ouch. Covid must have hurt them badly to try and win back the hordes that have moved to home delivery and click and collect. Not cheap to run. I expect it to be discontinued in a couple of years in favour of simplification and lower prices.
trading update 7/10/20 ex dividend 8/10/20 paid on 20/11/20.
Should be an interim dividend in October..

That would be a welcome surprise. The whole market has just become a manipulated playground for the big hitters - short term funds that buy and sell even stable stocks with no news flow . Cant be hard with sophisticated software to drive the prices up and down a couple of percentage points in the direction you want and then take the profits . The sooner they introduce regulation that says a purchaser has to hold the purchase for a minimum term of say ,1 month before retrading, then you will have these dramatic swings continuing.
Another simple measure is to stop these big swinging Mic keys from fleeching value is to have them disclose on their corporate website, the volume of individual trades in any plc that in aggregate amounts to more than say, 1% of the plc's shares in issue.
My point is that we the PIs are being spun
Thank you.
Crazy thought, what are the chances of the Charoen Pokphand Group making a bid for the whole of Tesco if the Office of Trade Competition Commission block the sale.
No news.still waiting on the regulatory authorities to decide. Remember there are two businesses being sold.
I was wondering if anyone had come access any new news regarding the special dividend from the sale of the Malaysian business ?
Based on what? Low interest rates look set for a long time.. Supermarket paying a decent yield. Could be worse.
Not every share has a tesla style valuation. Feels like 2000 again, a very hyped sector has got silly but a lot of dull value stocks just bumbling along at reasonable valuations.
Bang went the 220 -230 slumber rang then, , might this creep down to £2? Markets seem way to high at the mo .
price just drops this is a safe stock paying dividends very frustrating now anyway hopefully asia sale will bring some momentum.
Well the trays may not seem to be full in store but I can guarantee you that that when the driver loads it, usually on the afternoon run if he can condense the trays from 3 into 1 he will do it especially flats other wise he might have 9 trays say 5 ambient 3 chilled 1 frozen , 5 ambient will become 3/4 chilled 2,frozen if jus a bag at the address will be put in with the chilled as you can only get 6 trays on a trolley and no driver is going to waste 5 minutes up and down a tower block if they can help it , bottled water was a pain in the ass with regards to flats especially if there was no lifts ( recently the drivers refused to deliver large quantities Of water which I believed worked )
We shop at Sainsbury and when you see how they fill up their ‘you shop we’ll drop’ trolleys there is no way i would ever order online.
