Aren’t fair sorry
Let’s face it being born is a huge worry. There seem to be two camps - those that think we can remove risk from life and invoke litigation when things are “fair” and those who are sufficiently pragmatic to get on with life before we all shuffle off. Not making light of the virus but I am sick to death of the first category!!!!
Matterhorn,
There is no definitive evidence yet that it is more transmissible but the signs indicate it may be; signs being the surge in numbers in Gauteng province and the higher R number there which is 2, but 1.5 nationally.
Prof John Edmunds, a member of the UK's Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies (Sage) which advises the government, says the new variant, B.1.1.529, is a "huge worry" and could escape current Covid vaccines.
"The molecular data is extremely worrying...[it] would point to that perhaps this thing might be able to evade the immune response," he tells BBC Radio 4's PM programme.
Asked if the new variant could be resistant to current vaccines, Edmunds - an infectious diseases expert at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine - confirms this is scientists' "great fear" but it is not yet known to what extent the variant might be able to do so.
yes based on information from US, you are correct (I meant the DR/vid is Indian).
500% more infections = 5x more than Delta thats more sensible
Germany is now among the worst affected nations in western Europe, hitting a record of more than 76,000 infections on Friday.
As African variant found in Belgium
“ OMFG, I really hope that Indian Doc is wrong or this is going to be a **** show v shortly. Thanks for posting Fruits”
Yes he’s got it wrong. The origin of the US report is Newsweek.
It’s 500% not 500x more infectious.
Dr Bagai said based on data from the US, unless this 'US' is something else or have heard wrong.
Matterhorn
It’s not the US, it’s India.
I'm not sure I buy this. SA has just started analysing the virus so how's it possible that the US already have an opinion on it's infectiousness? Important to remember that even if it's more infectious it does not mean it's more transmissible.
Unfortunately, he’s not a leader of people.
Leaders of people set good examples.
Special Covid 19 Envoy to WHO just on SKY. Puzzled why England banning flights but not mandating practical steps like face masks in enclosed spaces.
I watched Boris vigorously shake hands with the Polish Premier earlier then finish the greeting by bumping elbows to avoid physical contact. I can only conclude he is an absolute total idiot. He was near death with this illness and still he doesn’t get it. Quite incredible really.
OMFG, I really hope that Indian Doc is wrong or this is going to be a **** show v shortly. Thanks for posting Fruits
By the time someone spots a variant, you can guarantee it’s halfway around the planet.
It’s only a matter time

Quite a good scientific explanation of the new variant.
