"The new Antivirals Taskforce, which is yet to appoint a chair, will search for the most promising potential antiviral medicines which can be taken at home."
Suggests you have to take it 12 hours before infection or twelve hours after; that’s going to miss an awful lot of people.
Well you can guarantee Pfizer will be the cheap option!
Another nail in the coffin ,a pill is a pill no matter which way you look at it !
Antivirals task force announcement Will it be therapeutic to the SP
Personally I would eat my hat or even hats. But I would love to be wrong on this one.
Badster
Agree it only been tested in vitro in the lab with promising results
Nothing is as far down the line as synairgen in real terms of having years of safety data, proven to be able to be used at home as per home trial, on FDA if the data is good you won't be able to ignore especially if the long covid is compelling.
Activ6 is repurposed drugs in US
https://clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/study/NCT04518410?term=synairgen&draw=2&rank=5
Activ 2 is here...only two can be took at home. SNG and Camostat
Bojo cannot come on TV and state that Sng or an inhaled interferon is in play due to competition rules. His comments about a pill are generic and intended to be.
The only material change we will see in government messaging will be after trials are completed be they accelerated or not.
Let’s look forward to actual news from SNG. If the trial results are positive we will be hearing plenty about it.
Could be as simple as Boris being Boris!
Either way this could prompt an end game in the UK. Perhaps there is a reason we have delayed home trial results and there is more to come off the back of this announcement. Maybe we are involved in this in some way, or we release results and the press then say "why not just use that?"
Alternatively it is the gloomier scenario and the UK obviously want to take another direction.
CR, As I recall the prof at Oxford [ horby?] stated about 3 months ago that they were to trial at least one existing treatment repurposed for covid. At the time i thought well that explains why you have not promoted or indeed supported sng01, you believe you can suceed without the Southampton uni input. So today Bojo is highlighting that the Oxford trials are on the cusp of success. It does not mean anything wrt our results other than there is a jealous guy at Oxford who needs to have his mind opened as he opens his p45 imv.
I don't have an answer for you CR1909. Perhaps because people are used to popping a pill for most things.? I think Pfizer and N4P are looking at pills but nothing tested or working as far as I know. We should be ahead of the game with an "at home treatment" so I am keeping my fingers crossed that our home trial results come back as good as the P2. In reality we are all just guessing.
Pfizer have an oral protease inhibitor in Phase One testing.
Perhaps Boris is pinning his hopes on that.
JSP - why be specific about a pill at all then? Why not just say we're looking for treatments at home?
What pills are in development/testing,does anyone know? It sounds like a very hard thing to create.
What makes you say that Dafad?
Perhaps BJ was purposely vague talking about a "pill". Had he mentioned an inhaler or nebulized treatment than may be that would have been to specific and sign posted SNG. Perhaps I am being optimistic? Always better to be glass half full.
The UK government are clearly looking for an at home treatment. For whatever reason they are ignoring a product on their doorstep, which they know all about. I find that very worrying as an investor.
A task force to find tablets to treat Covid at home by autumn.

Involved in What ?
I am completely the opposite. I have serious concerns that we are being overlooked completely by the UK government.
I hope you are right.
That Sng are involved in this!!
