Hospital admissions are down twice as much in over 65s that under 65, all down to vaccine
Good news that the nationwide full lockdown is reducing cases, obvious that it would. Now we need to test our way out of this as the country opens up to avoid another lockdown.
Great numbers today 50% reduction in cases from last Monday to this Monday, and vaccine is just starting to kick in.
HOPE IS BACK
Twatcher that is the problem, if the virus begins to circulate on mass due to lax adherence to rules, then there is an increased risk of a new variant developing that circumvents the vaccine. If that happens we are back to square 1! Hence the need for lots of testing going forward to keep the virus at a minimum level.
well if I'm highly protected against get seriously ill from flu for example, I'm pretty comfortable, and I imagine most will consider the same for Covid.
Twatcher its protection against serious illness and hospitalisation not that you wont get it!
oh! and I think I read the vaccine was only 10% effective for the Brazilian virus, unless that's changed? Variants will continue to cause big problems.
er. don't think so pal! There are plenty who WON'T be having it!
''With every adult in the uk having the 1st jab by end of July'',
Almost zero chance of another lockdown. Most recent data for AZ vaccine is an amazing 90% protection from just the first shot. With every adult in the uk having the 1st jab by end of July, and many at that stage the 2nd, at that time 90% of the adults you coming in contact with can't possibly have covid, and a 90% protection from catching it if you do. Meanwhile researching into the possibility of giving the shot to kids, the vast vast majority of who don't catch it, and the vast vast majority of those that do never have syptoms or only mild ones.
Vaccine data is far better than imagine. Vaccine roll out amazing (well done NHS). You'd almost think many here are hoping for worst case scenario to make a few quid.
Do you think the next RNS , is stitched in gold ,it’s taking that long to come out . Ref: Orders !
Another lockdown will be a disaster all round, in my mind that would be the very last thing the govt would want ...
Let's hope it doesn't happen..lj
I personally don't see a future lockdown.
" You would think now the R rate in the next 3 weeks is going to rocket, in my mind i have no doubt - But as long as you don't end up in the NHS, that is OK."
What we're seeing is a shift in the profile of patients being admitted. They're getting younger - and admission of children in particular is increasing at a high rate (albeit the numbers overall are still relatively small). We're predicting a further wave in June/July with another potential lockdown...
sledgey121, BJ's message on the vaccine narrative has done its job - Spoke to a few mates over the weekend in London, they said it was crazy with people, everyone left properties and went out - BJ's work on the Vac is completed, the message has sunk in, once you have had your 1st jab you won't get a serious illness, no hosptial and you won't die. From what i understand the vaccines are effective on the Brazil variant, the vaccine works in the sense you will not end up in hospital, which has been the game plan for the last 10 weeks.
I would suspect the psychologists advicing BJ/Cabinet are aware of this, and people are going to go out and be 'free "I am all right jack, I have had my Vac" human nature. You would think now the R rate in the next 3 weeks is going to rocket, in my mind i have no doubt - But as long as you don't end up in the NHS, that is OK.
That leads onto testing now, the new narrative which will be push down your throat for the next few months, you can see over the weekend the narrative from No.10 is starting to change, and the mass media are picking up on this. Over the course of this week testing will start to be drilled into the public, I doubt BJ will announce anything on testing this week, he needs the budget out the way - and a further 5 million jabs would be a nice USP for him.
I think next week is the big news week on testing, (unless the budget is shxt poor and they want to bury news) and then we are off. I don't think he will delay, if the weather is good this coming week and weekend, he is going to be forced to make a big announcement.
Ready - Test - Go
The vaccines are not effective against this variant and its already in the UK. Testing will now be even more important.
