Netflix button on Smart TVs remote control
Talk that a Britbox button will be mandatory
on Smart TVs imported into UK following pressure from BBC and ITV
I read this in press a few months ago but
cannot remember where
Will check
Do you mean an APP that appears when you turn the TV on? That's not regulated that's a commercial deal between the service and the TV manufacturer
Me too, it feels like something may well be happening. If the share price can break 114p.
Yes , likewise
Wise .move
I am staying put with a large holding
Yes I agree, that the changing landscape in this industry is making it increasingly unlikely that ITV can continue to operate as in independent company, and that it will be acquired sooner rather than later.
I have however always taken the view that until that stage is reached I am happy to sit tight, and collect the dividends, at what is a very attractive yield
Britbox has the potential to be available in 40 countries and UK regulators may insist
on TVs showing Britbox on the smart TV like Netflix before they can be sold In the UK
Absolutely speculative but massive consolidation
underway in the content industry and ITV
the last of the big players not yet part of a media
giant
Too small to continue alone imho
Sorry to butt in gents,..... but is this not all a bit speculative ?
Hi, this is my first post. Always interesting to see other peoples view on these shares; I don't have loads so not massively in the red with them!
Are you proposing Apple might buy ITV? A nice thought but it wouldn't happen purely as ITV are not a global platform. The word on the street is Apple / Google will be buying Netflix.
What does everyone think about BRITBOX? my initial thoughts are not positive. Their target audience are mainly free to air viewers who aren't prepared to pay for any type of SVOD service, anyway always interesting to hear others views
I was only referring to the current market
cap of ITV compared to Apple's initial content
spend not to a takeover price.
A takeover would be at around £2 a share if a bidding battle ensues imho
@ Nigeco.
£1.70 Seems a reasonable assessment.
I'd be tempted to take that.
"$ 6 b could buy ITV to include"
I take your point Dallo. Although, IMHO ITV would cost more than $6bln OR £4.94bln.
I would think that more likely If Liberty or anyone else were to put a takeover bid for ITV of only 35% premium above today's share price (109p) this would value ITV at £5,796bln minus net debt of £1,080 = £4,716bln. This would give an ITV share price of 117p per share.
This IMHO this would not be attractive to the BOD or shareholders, and have little chance of being accepted. As you have pointed out previously Dallo, the ITV Content as a stand alone company could be worth up to £5bln.
If Liberty or anyone else want ITV they will have to do better than that IMO.
Just my stab in the dark, but I would think any serious takeover bid that would interest the ITV BOD would have to be 170p per share. This would value the company at $9.61bln or £7.922bln minus Net Debt of £1.080bln = £6.842. = 170p per share.
Dallo - $6b is c£5b which would value us at c£1.25 a share - not for me. GLA
Apple intend to spend c $6 b on new content for its Apple TV+
streaming service
$ 6 b could buy ITV to include
Brand name -- iTV
Content -- 40,000 hours of digitalised programmes
ITV Studios
ITV Sports
Britbox/ ITV Hub
ITV television
and lots more besides............
Makes you think .
...then surely Apple shares will tank after this ??

But I think we all know it won't happen !
