I am absolutely fuming, surely after all the problems and prevarication of Tanzanian CAA in the past, we did not promise and start selling tickets and now disappointing passengers before having cast iron guarantees of approval with all the signed and approved paperwork already received. They talk about open skies but seem to always have their own agenda. It would appear they are trying to hold onto the old practice of greasing the wheels to get anything done.
I've just discovered that there are two editions of the new Places magazine, one for Zimbabwe and one for Tanzania (presumably distributed from the respective bases). Carbonix, so about where they were (except for a lower cost base, hopefully) when Nico took over from Ed & co. If this is true still implies that whilst progress has definitely been made they are likely to be loss making....
Thanks fatherelmer for the info and carbonix for the estimates. So, it looks like in Jan we are getting almost 2,000 pax per day. Business model seems a lot more robust now for gradual expansion, I’m confident these numbers will grow. Still not sure why these figures are not published on a monthly basis like other airlines on the LSE. Transparency would make fastjet a much more investible stock.

Thanks faltherelmer, So for January, that's 176 + 346 E45 flights = 522 flights = 26,100 seats @ say a cautious 90% load factor = 23,490 passengers. And for Tanzania it's 474 E190 flights = 45,504 seats @ say a cautious 80% load factor = 36,403 passengers. Total passengers for the 31 day month therefore = 59,893. For a full year, on current volumes, that would be say 705,000 passengers - which is less than the 2015 and 2016 volumes, the last we have, of c.790,000, but of course with a much lower cost base (cheaper fleet costs, running costs, pilots, head office). Finally, let's say $85 income per passenger (reasonable?), would be say c.$60m pa. Happy to take adjusted figures based on better info!
B787, based upon full, current schedule for 31 days gives 176 flights in Mozambique, 346 flights in Zimbabwe and 474 flights in Tanzania. The first two utilise a 50 seat ERJ145 whilst the later a 96 seat E190. As for utilisation I think I saw 95% in Mozambique and Zimbabwe, but don't know about Tanzania. As for average fares who knows!!
996 flights! Not bad! Anyone know the passenger config of fastjet’s Embraer aircraft? Could get a rough idea of seats flown, and with an educated guess of load factor an indication of monthly passenger numbers. Hopefully good load factors now the aircraft are smaller and as indicated by fjetcrazy.
Whilst it does not show Kigoma on the map, it is included as a destination list on the left hand page with the Aircraft on it and Kigoma is the last mentioned destination.
I see there's an (undated) announcement on the fastjet website: "Fastjet achieves 91% network-wide on time performance during January "Fastjet is proud to announce that during January 2018 we achieved a 91% network-wide on time performance. 996 flights were operated across 5 countries and 11 routes. A 91% on time performance was achieved in Zimbabwe, 94% in Tanzania and 82% in Mozambique." Wonder of wonders, we have some facts and figures!

Hillwi, I am in contact with a Mozi based crew member and can confirm the flights are running at around 95% full apparently, I know this does not equate to making a profit necessarily as we don�t know what customers are paying.
The Maputo - Nampula route is also booming, no seats left on the outward leg today, tomorrow, Sunday or Monday, although there are seats available on the return leg.
This route is BOOMING, a tweet below from a journalist ��- Boarded a fully loaded SA Airways today ...no space in Fastjet...seems SA investors also chasing the "gold rush" new era...

LAM and Air Zim have both tried it with noticeable lack of success. However, Maputo does seem to becoming more of an entry port of choice for Zim+Zam imports, so perhaps prospects are brighter.

Ah ha!! There's my � sign back! I like to use the "dash" sign (or what is typographically termed an en dash [half the width of an em dash!]) instead of a hyphen (when used to provide a pause in a sentence). I am reminded below that that gets corrupted too. I believe that has happened when using it in an email Subject line too. Again, from force of habit, I'm bound to use that again before long.
