The mayor of Ponferrada, Olegario Ramón, was the first to assess the result of the last meeting of the evaluation committee of the Futur-e Plan. He was dissatisfied and in favor of the project selection procedure not ending here, with a view to incorporating other industries that would allow the number of jobs to be expanded. "This City Council is committed to offering surplus land to any company that may have an interest in settling in the region, taking advantage of European and transition funds," he said. Precisely, due to the "scarce, almost zero, job creation", the councilor considered the wind logistics warehouse and the electric energy storage battery plant uninteresting.

Sorry..from 19 m tons to 16 m….we lost 3 because of incorrect readings on a map :-)
Ok…maybe I’m reading too much into this but you remember the mess up with the Jorc report when we incorrectly sized our exploration rights by a few thousand acres …the one with if memory serves me correctly 3 m tons inferred/indicated….and we reverted back to 16m tons ?
Well we’ll well……Endesa again !!!! Think we may be getting it back ?
“The territorial general director of Endesa, Miguel Temboury; and the mayor of Ponferrada, Olegario Ramón, yesterday signed a collaboration agreement by which the multinational energy company donates a farm and the building of the old library and assembly hall of the town of Compostilla to the City Council of the Bercian capital. An assignment that is "pure, simple and irrevocable, so that full ownership of these two elements has passed to the municipal inventory after the signing of the document that accredits it," explained Endesa sources.

Interesting theory Bricks, as you suggest LR did say something along the lines that "This is about so much more than just digging metal out of the ground", intriguing comment. Not quite sure what to make of it but I wonder with all this ESG / circular economy stuff could there be a possibility that they plan to move this forward outside of the traditional model of mining industry JV / sale. The pandemic has thrown everything up in the air, expect the unexpected :)
The Battery recycling business….20M …the electric storage battery plant….240 mill…..ring a bell anyone ? Didn’t the one mayor talk about this with Europa ??
Maybe that’s why LR…it not just about taking resources out the ground…..this part really excites me.
“All of them are part of the circular economy that Endesa has incorporated into its strategy and whose promotion is sought by both the Government of Spain and the European Union through the Recovery Funds.”
The decision on the projects has been adopted by the committee in a telematic meeting attended by Laura Martín, director of the Institute for Just Transition, of the Ministry of Ecological Transition; Alfonso Arroyo, General Director of Energy of the Junta de Castilla y León; Olegario Ramón, mayor of Ponferrada; Antonio Cuellas, mayor of Cubillos del Sil; Nuria González Rabanal and Victoriano Marcelo, experts appointed by the University of León; and Miguel Temboury and Juan Álvarez, executives of Endesa.
Additionally, the transfer of 4 coal-fired stoves from the plant has been agreed for a dehydration and packaging plant for fruits and vegetables, which is also promoted by the Viloria Group in the facilities it currently has in Cubillos del Sil. As indicated, all these initiatives exceed 260 million euros of investment and are around 160 new direct jobs.
The members of the committee have highlighted the characteristics of sustainability and innovation of the approved projects, which will attract economic activity and generate employment in Bierzo. All of them are part of the circular economy that Endesa has incorporated into its strategy and whose promotion is sought by both the Government of Spain and the European Union through the Recovery Funds.
Some of the initiatives could be developed at the Compostilla plant site, which will carry out a circular dismantling, in which some facilities for new business projects and materials will also be reused. The circular dismantling will allow the recycling of most of the 266,870 tonnes of waste that will be generated.
In addition to the space that these projects will occupy, there is availability of more than 64 ha of industrial land and almost 250 ha of rustic land on the site to implement other projects in addition to the Futur-e Plan in the area of ??just transition in the area. In the coming months, the final configuration of the projects will be finalized, as well as their location in the area.
The Evaluation Committee for the development of projects related to the closure of the Compostilla thermal power plant, in which the Ministry of Ecological Transition, the Junta de Castilla y León, the municipalities of Ponferrada and Cubillos del Sil, the University of León and Endesa, approved this Wednesday the first seven projects of the Futur-e Plan that Endesa promotes in the area and has given the green light to the use of equipment that was used in the plant for an additional project. These initiatives that accompany the closure of the plant could directly generate around 160 new jobs and mobilize an investment that exceeds 260 million euros.
The initiatives to which the Evaluation Committee gives its support to settle in the surroundings of the old Compostilla plant are: the first electric vehicle battery recycling factory, in which Endesa is associated with the technologist Northvolt and the company of Urbaser environmental services to carry out an investment of 14 million euros; a wind blade recycling plant, in which Endesa also participates and which will require an investment of 8 million euros; a hydromagnesite factory, promoted by the Viloria Group, in collaboration with Magnesitas de Rubián, which will provide an investment of 6 million to the area; a wind power logistics warehouse promoted by Endesa through its renewable energy subsidiary, Enel Green Power España, with an initial investment of 100,000 euros; a hydrogen plant powered by photovoltaic solar energy, driven by Endesa with the capacity to produce 200 tons of green hydrogen per year and an investment of approximately 6 million euros; an electric energy storage battery plant, with 380 MW of capacity and an investment of 228 million euros, which Endesa trusts will fall within the regulation established in the National Storage Plan, currently in the definition phase; and an insulating materials factory, an initiative of the Viloria Group with an estimated investment of 8.2 million euros.
Great find bricks as LR said in the presentation exciting 12 months ahead
In the article it says
These initiatives could generate about 160 jobs directly and mobilize an investment that exceeds 260 million euros, according to the data that have been released at the end of the last meeting of the evaluation committee in which the Ministry of Ecological Transition
